After market Petcock

I dont know about you guys but it's frustrating to buy these reproductions and have them leak. I normally use the Pingle single outlet petcock along with the Pingle filter with a one in and two outlets for the 4 cylinder bikes. Well I decided to try the greatly improved units for my last bike and sure enough it leaks. Granted not a lot but I had my tank off overnight and there is a puddle that formed underneath the tank. If the bike is stored during the winter it may overflow. I have had great luck with the Pingle products so one is on its way to replace to greatly improved one.

I am planning to ditch the vacum tap on my build for a manual unit that has an "off" position but not sure what I am going to use yet ?

If you have a modified bike Pingel is the go to brand name.

As far as other aftermarket petcocks I would only buy one that is "made in Japan", usually cast on it. The Tour Max brand that Z1 ent. sold was such a part, but that was a while ago.

Other than that I believe Kawasaki still sells the petcock for the Police 1000's, a bit pricey but at least you can get replacement seals (Only vacuum type available)

The problem I've had with them is they get so tight you can't turn the lever.

Her in  germany the pingel petcock is  also relative expensive like in the UK..!

( I´ve tried this aftermarket cheap petcock this year also, and still now, i have had a portion of luck: It is dry, and works as it should,..querry is: How long it will do...We will see... The problem was, my original part , i have overhauled it with new o-rings,..but it have no longer the reserve filter with outer diameter of about 7,3 mm, that was totally destroyed..can´t get one here , so ive tried this 13,- Euro cheap part for a test-run,..now since 1st of march..and still dry..)
Greetings, Joe

Seen that issue and sometimes it can be fixed with a little spray of silicone lube. If that does not fix it while on the tank you may have to drain it and remove the valve to flush it properly, like anything that contacts gasoline tarnish can build up over time. Like any mechanical part they do require periodic maintenance.

I have had one apart, there is a molded Delrin plastic slug inside that seals off on a SS ball. That plastic slug split in half which caused it to leak like crazy, the only time I have seen one fail.

On the Pingel web site the base price is $120 then you need to ad a adapter which could be between $35-45 depending on what tank you have. Then add shipping and tax. Yes I agree they have gotten expensive but they are worth it.

I have bought good used ones on Ebay a few times, or at local motorcycle breakers where you can haggle a bit. I have 4 of them and only one was bought new (back in 1985)

There is no adapter for the Z1/Kz bikes. You use the 22mm HD unit. if you have a Suzuki or Yamaha that the petcock get bolted to then you need the adapter and go with the 1/4 pipe thread unit.

Indeed, the adaptor is another $80 so $300 by the time it's bolted to the tank (will be giving that a miss I think !!!)
