Correct for Z1, but there are a lot of later KZ bikes that use 44mm two bolt flat mounts that require the adapter plate. They come in 1/4NPT, 3/8NPT, and male 22mm versions.

I would estimate I have had at least an 80% success rate with the cheap petcocks. My KZ305 has had one on for 4 years and my KE100 for 1 year. At $10 a peice I can accept a bod one now and then. If they work when new, they seem to work for years.

I looked at it in a similar way: A hard-to-find filter screen for the original petcock costs me around 25-30 euros including shipping. So i´ve give it a try, and I paid 13 euros including shipping for the petcock, and it's leak-proof and works well so far. And just in case, I still have the original part here (without the filter ).

A minute ago, I´ve just found a suplier who offers an aftermarket  filter with a outer diameter of 7,4 mm for just 6,50 euro + shipping, complet for a bout 13,90 Euro..i´ve ordered 1 and will have a complete original petck here in stock . great!

I have ordered a "high flow" Drag Specialities unit with the adaptor from "Chopper shop" in the Netherlands - not the cheapest option but looks similar to the pingle at a "mid-range" price $90 with the adaptor

(I used a PINGEL petcock on my Z1B for 20 years and was very happy with it, but as I said: The prices for this petcock have risen significantly... this particular petcock is really no longer worth it to me, especially since there are enough alternatives these days....)
 

I've had a Pingle on my 78 for 25+ years and have never had to do a thing for it.  I wish I could remember what I paid for it back then.

I dont mind spending the extra cash for my peace of mind. Nothing worse (well almost) than have the engine fill up with gas or having the gas leaking out of the carbs then having the house blow up when the hot water tank ignites the gas fumes. Besides they look great

I don't disagree but at $300 here in the UK (with the adaptor) it's just "too much" for a petcock !!!

Ive purchased from pingel for over 20 years. The best product and the best no questions asked warranty (They rebuild or replace if you have an issue) Wookie would it be any cheaper if I purchased what you need here in the states and mailed to you?

Really appreciate the offer Joe but the "drag specialities" unit is due to arrive tomorrow, to be honest depending on what happens around "tariffs" sending to and from the US may be challenging moving forward

You are more than welcome, I'd still like to do a BOTM feature on the black bike (not just because it's a great bike but also the back story) or possibly a feature on the pair
