Newly rebuilt carbs. Lefty seems fine, but righty....
03 May 2023 18:35 - 03 May 2023 18:36
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
My 1978 twin was in the shop and had the carbs rebuilt. I got the bike home and had to replace hardware so that the clutch would work properly, and it could be test rode.
My left hand carburetor seems to be working completely properly, The right hand carburetor will drain fuel through the long vent lube until I cut the fuel off at the tank. It also has developed the same thing coming out of the smaller tube on the side of the carburetor.
These were professionally rebuilt and I suspect that something has gone sideways.
I got the bike to fire up and ride and took it for a joy ride. It was still pouring fuel but under throttle. I think it was sucking back enough of it to keep it from being too messy. I would love some input if someone's got some.
Thank you very much for reading and good evening.

If your gas tank has rust in it, the particles will foul your clean carbs and likely cause an overflow issue.

i am very aware of this. the tank is beautifully clean, and filtered. i have a feeling the shop that rebuilt them is the why, and they are going to fix it.
i got to joy ride it around the neighborhood, and im chomping at the bit to get this old girl on the real road.

Ya know I tried to explain it and the dang carb just refused to comply. Well it made it back to the shop yesterday. Somthing clicking under the left side cover gave me the opportunity to kick start it. Small buzz Around the parking lot and hone with empty trailer.

Good morning everyone!! so the bike is STILL not right. there is a lot of hate and discontent brewing. the shop is still trying to solve it. sadly the ONLY bike shop in 50+ miles.
unknown what the PO did with the carbs, aside form the pod filters.
the mess: the carb leaks but the bike runs great. the carb stops venting, and the bike runs like garbage. now my mind says it venting fuel so less is being ingested into the motor and when is not, its getting too much fuel?
im accepting thoughts, wisdom and prayers at this time.
edit: id be willing to spend the coin and replace em out right with known to work or new ones.

This must be driving you nuts, you have to ask "how hard can it be?" a few questions for you below
- How long does it run for before it faults?
- is it still the case that only one carb leaks ?
- When it leaks is it from the overflow on the bowl ?
- When the fault appears if you shut the fuel off and open the drain screw on the offending carb is there fuel in the bowl?
- If the bowl has run dry have you tried running with the petcock in the "prime" position (I am assuming you have a vacum petcock)?
- If the offending carb still runs dry have you tried running with the gas cap open?

Could the float be upside down? I've done it.
The petcock may have a leaky vacuum diaphragm causing that carb to overflow.

the petcock is a duel feed.
if you leave it open, the carb leaks like the float is stuck. take it apart, seems to work fine on the bench. re assemble. same same. the carb has been apart a dozen times. the old float had a hole so new ones were sourced.
this is what the professional is telling me. i don't have a garage, shed, or work bench to be able to any of it (eyes kitchen table...)

It's a worry that somebody that takes money from people to work on their bikes can't sort a flooding carb in 10 WEEKS
I hope they aren't charging you "by the hour"
