I am looking for recomendations for someone to replace a bell crank wheel on a brand new set of Mikuni 34 Flatslides, Carbs have less than 5 miles on them and I noticed after first ride. I have the brand new part supplied by Mikuni, I suspect a bad cast on the original. Carbs have been drained of fuel. Unfortunately no one local to me can do it. Would prefer your recomendation and someone you have used before. Appreciate the help in advance. Thanks, Joe

Any pics of the bad bell crank wheel would help?

The crack is right where the throttle cable attaches to position two. If I take carbs off bike I will try to get a picture. Thanks.

You need a thin pin drift punch to remove the small roll pin.

There is also a roll pin on the throttle return spring holder.

I can't give any recommendations on people who could replace that bell crank for you. The only place that comes to mind is W.G. Carbs - Never used them as I do all my own carb work.

Not sure why you could not do it on your own? The throttle shaft once free of all the bolts, and roll pins, just slides out the side of the carb body (rubber cap on the return spring end) you don't have to take the carbs off the mount rails to do it. You don't even need to take the slides out of the bodies.

I probably will end up taking them apart myself. I was just thinking it would be easier to have them done by a pro that has worked on them before. Espiecially since they are brand new. I do have a couple other non motorcycle projects going on at the moment. As soon as they are done I will handle the carbs. Thanks for the help and I will keep you updated.

I have a set on RS34’s on the bench. I looked them over. Not a difficult job. I can offer up help if needed.

If they are brand new and have a casting flaw, that should be a warranty job.

9 out of 10 times companys like Mikuni will claim mechanical error vs a bad cast. Ive been down that road before. It was easier to order the bell crank and have it repaired. In fact I remember a time Larry Cavanaugh had installed a brand new set of 1075 wiseco pistons on his personal bike. He promptly blew one up. Wiseco told him it was a bad install and to rub rocks. Can you imagine telling a renowed builder that? I remember cause I had a set and gave them to him so he could get his bike back together before winter hit. We ended up becoming great friends after that. He actually did the head on my 1327.

PM doesn't work but I can put you in touch by email if you are both in agreement
