Grab your volt meter and check something.
Screw the spark plug into the block.
Meter on DC V.
Key on
Kill switch set to run
Red probe positive battery post
Black probe to negative battery post
What is your voltage to one decimal place (ex 12.5v)?
Move black probe to the hex nut of the spark plug.
What is your voltage to one decimal place?
Turn off bike
We're checking that the two voltages are close which will verify that the plug has a good ground when installed in the bike.
It doesn't seem you have a fuel issue as the starting fluid should have fired the bike.
Something is up with your spark, timing or valves.

Turn off the fuel and drain the carburetor bowl. Now will it fire with starter fluid?

Purely a question, not suggesting you’re wrong, but why would the timing change or be disrupted if I didn’t remove anything other than the starter?
Thanks

I did replace the 11 amp battery with a smaller 3.5 to run the lights.

You would be amazed how many posts there are about perfectly healthy bikes that went into the shed and developed all manner of problems - I suspect there are naughty garage fairy's at work all over the worldHow does one check the spark timing?

11.24 both terminals and 11.16 on the spark plug.
Your thoughts?
F64 post=865616It harder for a plug to fire under cylinder pressure. The tester will allow you to see if the plug is firing under cylinder pressure.
