installing new carb boots was created by junker
Hiya, got some new rubber boots (or maybe carb holders or carb manifolds is the correct term...connects carbs to cylinder head).
Is it necessary to apply a special adhesive to these when installing? Nothing in the manual about it but a mechanic i was chatting to mentioned a special glue (dont remember what it's called)....

Thx

No glue; no sealant. Put them on dry. Ed

Great thanks! Now I'm gunna see if I can somehow move the air box forward cuz there's a gap between those rear manifolds & the carbs, they don't fit snugly.

ok update: turns out the carb manifolds were stuffed too far into the air box- just had to yank them out more..
Got the new boots on (fun times with stripped bolts= drilling old screw heads off...). Now i've got an exciting new problem.. i guess i should start a new post for that--

ok this is strange (to me anyways). Got new carb holders installed and now bike only idles correctly when choke is on (lever up). When off (lever down) it idles way too high. Only idles correctly when choke almost completely all the way on.. Tried adjusting the idle screw both ways and adjusted throttle cable too. Trying to think what else could be- pilot screw or what
Ideas?

You might have a leak on your new boot install. I used type 2 sealant on mine and make sure your clamps are tight.

Are you using a K&N or other high flow filter. Any exhaust mods?

You shouldn't need any kind of sealant on the carb manifolds! If that is the problem, you have assembled something incorrectly.

Instead, find the source of the vacuum leak(s). Check to be sure the manifold to head mounting screws are tightened evenly, the carbs are in the manifolds all the way, the carb synchronizing ports are all plugged, and the clamps are tightened properly (over tightening them creates leaks, too),

Exactly! They go on dry and they do not leak. Ed
