Popped the cork! was created by daveo
I bolted in the competition baffle for the first time since changing carbs. Its louder than the street baffle, but there is a significant difference how quick the bike moves.
Idle is very smooth with the jetting installed with the street baffle. There is no deceleration pop with 20 pilot jets, and I still get a slight hesitation bog with the 140 (one-forty) main jets, but that hesitation has steadily diminished with each larger main jet installed. The needles are clipped in the center slot.

Sixteen years, and she keeps-on giving as never imagined. I'm happy to keep her going, which just happens to be better than ever.
A little at a time, with ne'er a borrowed dime.

DaveO,
Are you like a professional photographer or something? This picture is freakin' perfect. I thought at first it was some advertisement from a magazine you found about your exhaust on a KZ! B)
Great work on the bike and for noodling out the jetting details!

No pro bro, but/and thanks for the complement.
I have an old Canon A630 digital camera that is addicted to capturing good images.

A tripod is essential.

Aside from the deep, low-pitch :woohoo: rumble, its the pressure of a shaken champagne bottle being relieved. The sensation is like being in the liquid flying out with the cork!

I'm a novice with such things, but the engine seems to like the additional fuel, finely-metered by these carbs. There is no comparing them to the old BS. Its the fine tune-ability of the circuits...wow!

And we ain't quite there yet.

You'll have to add a little more fuel. Watch your plugs.

The Mikuni manual states that increased Pilot Air Jet size leans the mixture, while smaller makes it richer.
My test both directions prove that, and one step smaller performs better.
I hope to have richer mains to test by the weekend.

:)

Update: Throttle cable end separated from the pull-cable last night. :(
Idled up and limped home. Hit green at every stop light except one, over about three miles of paved level roads.
Time for a rest.

Fixed the knarp situation.
Back to .8 pilot air jets. The engine definitely likes that size.
Here's a pic of the tail pipe/baffle that has tan color never seen with the BS34's. The competition baffle was completely-clean a few days ago,

and how it is now:

I want to say FINALLY with a sigh of relief, but I know better.
What is that fine-tan deposit? I can't see a trace of black soot in it, even at 300% zoom.

Just use Shell Regular gas, if that has anything to do with it.
