Gas mileage
19 May 2016 08:04
What do you guys get for mpg on your kz550 ltd? I ride my bike to work, all city riding. It's a 3-4 mile ride, at 30 mph and 50mph, and has 7 stop signs.

Really!! Is that mostly in town? So on a 3+ gallon tank you fill up after 150 miles or so?

My first tank of the season only gave me about 23mpg. My bike does have pods and has been jetted. But that shouldn't hurt mpg that much, will it????

In town, with the airbox. I fill up every 100 miles. Takes around 2 gallons.
I have not ridden enough with pods to compare. You may be jetted too rich. It is my understanding that pods can be compensated for with a needle shim and stock jets.

Changes in carburation will effect mileage.

I put pods on my Z1, thought it ran better but I lost at least 5 MPG.

I have 4:1 headers and pods on my KZ1075cc. I get about 40 to 44 mpg regularly.
When really babying it in the flat lands, I can get close to 48mpg.... All that is riding solo and staying off the 75mph freeways here.
I'm running a bit lean on the mains and very slightly rich in the pilot jet.

Those 26's are stingy on gas.

I'm getting approx 45 mpg on my '82 GPz750 with a ZR7 4-1 header and Kerker can. I have a chopped airbox cap and have rejetted to 132.5 jets. I converted to 530 chain with sprockets roughly equivalent to going up 1 tooth on the front 630 sprocket. The low fuel light starts blinking in earnest about 170 and I hit reserve in another 5-10 miles. Most my driving is to and from work about 1/4 surface roads and the rest Interstate beltway in traffic varying between 70-90 mph 5-7k rpm. I cover about 20 miles in about 20 minutes.
When I go canyon carving I might loose a few miles of range but not more than 10.
