What are you riding? I get about 40 riding my 80 KZ440LTD like an idiot. 55 or so if I behave.

You need to have someone perform a full tune-up. You should get a t least 30 mpg even if you ride REALLY hard. Also, what rpm are you shifting at? Ed

You're burning a lot of extra fuel if you routinely shift at 7000 rpm. Unless you are racing someone (it happens) try shifting earlier - say around 3500 rpm and see if your mpg improve. Ed

& that's bad gas mileage, & I see you have another thread about looks
Do like 650ed suggested & tune up bike & get it running right, before worrying about looks, looks wont get you anywhere if your bike don't run properly

I was getting 42 MPG dependable with my 28's. Now I get 30-35 with my 33's. Been trying to lean it out but I guess I'm stuck with what I got. Don't help having a heavy hand ether. :woohoo:

You are revving way too high for regular riding. Don't ride like you're at the drag strip at every light and you wont be making Al Gore cry. You shouldn't be shifting above 5k in traffic and that's only if the devil's on your ass with a pitch fork. Shifting between 3-4K will get you there quick enough. Your rear tire will last much longer as well.
I'm getting about 45 mpg and I ride like an idiot IMO. I'm sure I could milk it to the mid 50s if I behaved myself. I cruise @ 85/6k on the highway to work. I also went larger on my drive sprocket to help that.

Good advice. Shifting at 5K will beat most cars in traffic, and my 550 will still gets 50 mpg doing that.
