Noob who needs guidance
11 Mar 2016 17:15
Hi, I apologize in advance for the noob questions that are about to follow. But I just recently aquired a 1979 Kz1000 LTD B3. I was hoping for guidance on the carbs. I am unaware of what are on it. I think they might be VM26s, and if they are I was hoping someone could help guide me in the right direction. I want to add pods to the bike. I was also hoping to get the carbs rebuilt but I read somewhere that these 26s are very hard to tune after rebuilding. If that is the case, I was wondering where I should turn next. What carb should I get that is a direct fit? I also don't know jack about carbs, so I'm trying to learn slowly. I do understand that after pods, the carbs will need bigger jets. If someone could just put me in the right direction it would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Those are good carbs. What you heard is wrong. Pics of the bike and take off the float bowls and get some pics of them too.

Is this a pic of what you asked for? Also, I believe when I read the VM26s, if that's what I have, we're hard to tune after rebuilding was, they were talking about the ones with an accelerator pump, which I believe I have.

They look clean. You don't have to take them apart completely. Clean the jets and spray carb cleaner through the passages.

Regarding pods. The subject has been discussed many thousands of times on this site including pros/cons; tuning tips; problems; etc. Do yourself (and all of us) a big favor and do a search on this site. Here's how - put your cursor over "Forum" and click on "SEARCH." Under "Keywords:" key in the word pods. Then, under "Search Options" find "Find Posts from" and under that change "a year ago" to "any date" using the drop down menu. Then at the bottom click on "Search." You should then see 8993 postings on the subject of pods as shown in the image below. PLEASE read them before asking pros / cons; tuning tips; etc. Every possible combination of questions; answers; arguments; blessings; etc. can be found there. Ed

Okay, thank you guys. Sorry for not going to deep into research. Feels like I am reading a different language. Wanted to figure out if these were worth using before going into pod research. Will continue into that. Thanks again, really appreciate it.
