spdygon - No ! not you at all - i believed you were trying to clear up a situation that shouldnt have arisen in the first place. baldy asked the question with the smart ass attitude.I hear what ED is saying, but that particular problem was never asked by slade .No stress here - just dont tolerate comments directed at myself having little or nothing to do with the question asked. This is the first time i have "gone off" if you are referring to language ED - that is very mild compared to normal. I am always helping if i am able :)

When I bench sinc carbs and set floats I use my test tank to test carbs for leaks. there is no vacume hooked up when setting them on the bench. When the carbs are set right you can leave the test tank in the on position all night with no leaks. The needle and seat should shut off fuel regardless. the problem is float height or needle and seat, although petcock may be faulty or may need replaced the needle and seat is not shutting off. The reason faulty petcocks will cause carbs to leak is because trash or particles in the tank float down between needle and seat and causes carbs to leak. vacume carbs should not flow on the on position. However you replace that petcock with a pingel there is no vacume just straight fuel. back to needle and seats they have to stop the flow.

That's funny I didn't write it with an attitude, wow, I simply wanted to know the reason behind why people do things. And BTW no one has yet to answer my question of why is it important to not let the bike rest on the kickstand?

I thought I'd done that. Gas can work on the gaskets and start a leak. When I store by bike, it's on the center stand.

You did say that but for extended storage. Zephyrider indicated he does it all the time. I was simply wondering is there a particular reason why? I had no idea I was being a "smartass" for asking why. His response to my question was I had to be joking. That did not answer my question then someone else chimed in about spark plugs, Zephyrider then goes off I guess on me. Again my original questions was never answered.

Well - sorry about that baldy - took your reply completely the wrong way
I park on the centre stand because mainly i dont want fuel "pooling" to left side of carbs and also oil in engine and i usually do a quick check on everything while is up there - after a reasonable distance ride i normally will lube chain - dont use chain lube (messy sticky crap - tried them all ) - 90 w diff oil - leave for 15 minutes or so and clean off excess with rag and check rear tyre and clean wheel- bit over the top with my cleanliness
Also use a service jack on front end regularly - check and clean front wheel , check steering head
If i didnt have a centrestand would use one of those racing stands - used to have one but Cstand is easier.
Much easier for me to work on anything up on stand - hope that has answered your question : )

That did answer my question, thanks. It sounds like you are very particular on maintaining your bike. I do that also but only when I store the bike for the winter. Call me weird but I like to hear what people do to their bikes, how and their reasoning. I have learned some good stuff over the years asking questions. I do apologize if I sound liked a smartass.
