What I'm getting at, is the price disparity between OEM and aftermarket. An example...K&L carburetor kits for the BS34 contain fuel float valves that are not quite the same as the OEM Genuine Kawasaki (Mikuni) part. The OEM float valve currently sells for twice the price of a whole K&L kit! On close inspection, the parts are quite different, though designed to do exactly the same thing (which one does flawlessly).

IMHO, apples to oranges. I agree the aftermarket carb parts are inferior to OEM parts..
I bought my carb holders from Z1E and they are excellent. If you have any doubts, go ahead and get the OEM carb holders They are not that much more expensive.

I got a set this summer K and L from Z-1 and they look to be very nice quality, have read they use the same molds also so they are pretty much a carbon copy ..... think I read on here Jeff from Z-1 was talking them up saying they are of the same quality as the original and are defently cheaper.

On the jetting kit I agree 100% though .... wasn't to happy with the K and L carb kits and will stick with stock as long as possible. Only have maybe 6,000 miles on my 24mm carbs as I ran smoothbores for 20 years so they are in exc shape anyway.

Intakes can be found cheap. They seem to hold up well. The K&L carb parts kits are generally not specific. You've got to check the parts. Especially the tower needles. K&L does however sell VITON tipped float needles that I use in all of my Zs and early KZs. And I do use K&L bowl gaskets as well.

Just ordered a nice looking (NEW) set off ebay. :woohoo:
Before I put them on, I'd like to hear some professional methods used to mount them...if there is such a thing.
Would a light film of sealer be helpful, applied prior to securing them to the head? How snug should the bolts be tightened, and should I back-up the bolt-heads with washers?

I put mine on dry - no sealer or washers needed with new holders. That was 9 years ago and I still have no leaks. If yours still are held on with the cross-head screws be sure to use a JIS screwdriver bit - not Phillips - to loosen and tighten or they very likely will strip. (If you're not familiar with JIS screwdriver bits please ask and I 'll give a good link on how to make your own bits). The KZ650 Kawasaki Service Manual calls for a non-permanent locking agent on the screws. I used the generic 4.5 - 5.5 foot-lb torque spec for 6mm fasteners. Ed

Dry. And I prefer to use stainless steel allen head screws. My bike is devoid of JIS screws, especially the carbs.
