I just can't seem to find what size the jets are supposed to be anywhere on the internet. I can't find it in my "Kawasaki Heavy Industries" service manual either. Help!

Take a look in your manual under the section titled "Maintenance - Engine." If your Kawasaki Service Manual is similar to mine there should be a carburetor sub-section there which contains a carburetor specifications table that shows the stock jets, needles, cutaways, etc. Ed

Once you have the carbs off, write down the pilot jet and main jet size. Look to see what position the needle jet is in and then post them here. Knowing what you have might make it easier to tell where you need to be. Also include how many turns out your screws are.

Ed, thanks for the heads up. I have looked in other areas of the manual, but I did not find the info. Once I looked under maintenance, I found it. It says 110 with the VM28SS carbs. My jets are 112.5, so they may have been changed and not needed to be. I still need to check the needle positions to determine if they have been adjusted as well.

As long as my spark plugs are coated black at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle position, I should be moving these needles down as much as possible. Correct? In my teardown, I have noticed new Dyna S coils and pickups, so I will chack timing once I get it back together. :S

Would check spark quality and compression before changing carb jetting.

Good Fortune! :)

Good news is that carbs have been cleaned out thoroughly. They were in pretty good shape already, so not surprising it is still running the same. Bad news is that it is still running like it was. I am going to check compression and spark quality next. Since the plug was black, I am going to replace them also. Anyone suggest what plug make and model they prefer? The current ones are NGK B8EG. I remember from my 2 cycle days that you could by a colder running plug and a hotter running plug to fix fowling issues. Is the B8EG the best running plug for these big boys?

Also, I know the KZ1300 motors had bad cam chain tensioners. Do the KZ1000 have bad cam chain tensioners also, or has anyone had problems with them not staying tight?

I did notice when I had the carbs off that they had a screw in the end of one of the vent tubes. I assume that carb was overflowing at one time or another. The parts inside the carbs all looked in good condition, so I think I am just going to remove that screw. Would that screw in the vent tube cause the bike to run funny? Has anyone done this? Noticed any changes? Thanks :woohoo:

None of the vent tubes or overflow tubes should be blocked. The only possible reason I can think of for blocking any tube on the carbs would be if the owner swapped a vacuum operated petcock for a manual petcock. In that case he would need to block the vacuum tube on the carb that would have been connected to the vacuum operated petcock.

Can you provide a picture of the carb with the screw in it? Ed
