Modified Stock Exhaust was created by johnjones750csr
Has anyone here ever just modified the stock exhaust? I have an 82 750 twin that I would like a little more flow and sound out of the exhaust, but the stock exhaust is still in really good shape. Could one just remove the rivets and take the stuff out of the pipe and increase flow and sound coming from it?

Nice stock exhaust systems have considerable value; once modified they aren't worth much at all. If yours is in really good shape you may want to consider selling it and buying an aftermarket 2 into one. You could end up breaking even or making a few $$ and having a new exhaust that meets your expectations. Ed

I drilled a couple of holes in mine as it was too quiet and nobody heard me coming, its louder now, but not too loud and definetly people can hear me coming now. You know what the saying is, loud bikes save lives. Good luck.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

I've heard that saying, but I've never seen evidence. I would say driving defensively saves lives. ;)

What is behind that riveted cover? is it just a cap with packing behind it?

The real question is, if I remove all that stuff and open the exhaust up, is it going to wreak havok on my fuel mixture? I'm still running stock carbs with no modifications to them

Yes you can modify your stock exhaust to make more power. A race mechanic for Yoshimura played with my stock pipes and re-jetted my carbs and I was taking guys with headers all the time. He was playing with my bike and using the results on a "box stock" race bike. But like Ed said your stock exhaust is worth $$$ to someone.

When I was a kid I used balloons in my spokes. Here's a kid with one balloon, but you should hear what 4 balloons sound like. Actually they kind of sounded like a Harley that was running smoother than most.
