i bought a set and the p/o said he bought them years ago and is not sure of jetting..i plan on pulling a bowl or two and peeking in before i install them...z-1 site reccomends
20/120 9 air and the sudco mikuni manual says the standard
jetting they sold them with for a kz1000 is 25/120 9 air....
any input?.....if i read the sudco book right, the pilot mixture screws are on the side.....should be a lot easier to tinker with than the other vm series on the bottom....

there are threads in the forum i remember that say the mix screw setting...maybe you can find em in a search i thought it was 1/4 turn out from loosely seated(pretty sure) .....there are some small idle circuits and removable brass goodies.. that i missed when i cleaned mine the first few times....finally i found em in the bowls and did a thurough cleaning of every removable piece..all the pin holes with a fine copper wire.. and a good blow through with all mix..ect...and a couple cans of carb spray.....being way careful not to break the wire in a orifice...shrek hands..
.anyway..i know you know all this stuff but that is my input...you'll dig em.....mine were jetted for a 1000 somthing hot rod motor the p.o said...i cleaned em and threw em on my 903 cc tired motor with some filter pods and a supertrapp...and the difference was pretty decent.. .. by now i can see where they lag a bit...while the pistons seem to catch up to speed with the flow of fuel...........jetting?...i just ride it...oh well....shows how much i know....:woohoo:

Congratulations on the buy. You never mentioned how you were going to run them. Stock air box and pipes, pods and vance and hines what baffle? That makes a difference as well. I know that my setup I was running 120 now 125 but as far as the pilot jets I have 17.5.
It just depends on the setup.

If the setup is for what you have listed then maybe the pilot jet could be good 20-25 but the main you will find that 125 should be good has to be bigger than 120. I am running lean with my setup but I am going to put different carbs on over the winter so I will just ride a few hundred more miles. That part makes a good difference when the carbs are tuned and jetted correctly for the setup. The carbs will need to be synced etc.
This is as much as I know about the jetting. It will make a difference with different setups and engine condition.

sax,
thanks for the input...these carbs should be here mon/tues
and i will give them the once over when they get here...i think my andrews 2x(mild street cam) might be the diff on the main.....360 vs 410....but then again....i have a suspicion that i will have to bump up main to 125....i guess a little carb install/re-install will be coming up.....thanks again....

on my little drag motor i run 20 pilots and and usally 120 main's (at 2200 ft) with .395 lift web cam's 1015 12-1 compression and a decent head the bike run's 10.70's at 120+ mph all day if i go to a sea level track like mission b.c that has awesome air i'll use 125 main's but no more. when i use them in my street bike like i'm doing now i use 115 main's the bike is a 1075 with stage one yosh intake cam and a stock exhaust but the head is off one of my drag motors so it has over sized valve's and a very good port job. the bike will do between 145 and 150 mile an hour and it carburates clean all the way thru. but remember i'm at 22oo feet of elevation. by the way the street bike has a yosh pipe and k&n pod filters. so it cant breath asgood as the drag motor. with the 29's onit pulls very hard all thru the gears and it will pull until it hits the rev limiter in every gear (11,000 rpm by the way). i have been using these same carbs for over 15 years and i wouldn't sell them for anything they have been incredable ihave only put needles and seat's in one time. and that was only because i got a good deal on a compleate set.when i saw that guy's where getting a thousand dollars on e-bay for the i was tempted and that old italian guy from arizona almost talked me into it but i couldn't do it. sorry i went on so long but i hope this help's anyway

installed them with new boots and she fired right up...worked great on choke....
it s gonna need 25 pilots...revs hang up pretty bad and i tried a 1/2 turn out on the pilot screws...not much of an improvement....took a quick blast down the street and pulled pretty good considering....these should be sweet dialed in......

Get them dialed in and they should make a big difference. I have a set wth butched pilots that I miss. Talk about a letdown going from the smoothbores to the regular 28's. I'm jealous now, anyone have parts for the smoothies send me a PM.

Enquiring minds would like to know what you paid for those carbs. It's making me wonder. By the way tirebomb one day we are gonna have to meet up and ride together. If you dropped that much money into your motor I would love to hear it run!
PS Were you talkin bout Dave? And his CR's? Have you tried em?

Check out SUDCO.com they have lots of stuff for those carbs. I ordered the bowl nuts because my knuckleheaded neighbor either lost them or someone saw them in his garage and stole them. I am going to sell my 29's. I have never ridden the 28's but was told that they are not much different performance wise. I know not. I do know that if the 29s are getting the big money I will sell mine so I can finance the CRs I am covinced they are better by all of the people I have talked to. Anyone tried them out at the track?Kawickrice wrote:
