I just "gave away" two sets of those carbs. One was a parts set, but they had those parts in good shape. What may I ask is wrong with yours? Are they dried out or something?

I did not have a single of the six grommets in working condition. One half of each grommet was spinning freely on the throttle shaft while its other half was flopping around on the shaft inside the top of the carb.

Hmmmmm Maybe I will have to just silicone the crap out emm....

This is only a guess/ suggestion. I would go to a proper bearing and seal supply store with the old seal and the carb and throttle shaft. Try finding a dimensional seal that will seal but not bind the linkage. Might be worth a shot.

Do you have experience finding the parts to rebuild them. It seems the people that do, do not want to talk about it. I personally am a college student who was given a kz900 as a present from my father after returning from the gulf in 03. It hardly ran and I am trying to honor his generosity by rebuilding the thing. I currently have the carbs completely rebuilt with the exception of this dang grommet. I understand that people are trying to make money but Ill sooner pay to have a backup supply of custom grommets made before I pay someone 300 bucks to do a job I have already done (rebuilding my carb) just so they can install the parts they were unwilling to sell.

Sorry, but I am bitter about my current obstacle. I love this bike but am hating this hang up.

there is no mystery to those carbs.....i thought there was at one time, but after going through a few sets...i m like "they get how much?"......those parts are out there...trust me.....old george likes to play his hand close to his chest...trust me when i tell you , he isnt the only game in town and there are many places to get parts .....the more i read and listen, the more i believe there is a small cottage side biz in slide carbs....

Don't get your hopes up but I'll try to get back the ones I gave away and give them to you. IF I can get them back, you can have them. Just waiting on my brother to call me back. I gave them to his buddy with the other carbs.

are we talking the two rubber grommets , one on each end of the throttle shaft assembly that covers the holes on each end of the outside carbs?

No, I think those two are referred to as "plugs" we are trying to find the 6 grommets that fit both sides of the two inside carbs and the throttle shaft side of the two side carbs.

i m kind of bored this winter.....i have experience re-building vm series carbs.....might be time to scan ebay and
re-fire the polishing wheel........apparently there is money to be made.....B)

I see you have the fuel tee's circled also. Do you need them as well?

You have a parts factory right behind the bike. Get that lathe running and make the grommets.

Spent all night and all morning talking to vendors across the nation trying to find these parts. I even contacted the president of the VJMC for advice on finding obsolete parts and found nuthin. Thought I'd swing by the local cycle salvage today for a little look and walked out with 7 grommets in excellent condition for 5 bucks. Just so happens that the cost of my 7 grommets is less than any of these other guys will charge you for a single used one. I guess initially I wasnt willing to settle for used grommets after seeing the condition of mine, but sifting through rows of mikuni carbs I found some pretty good candidates for my bike.
