I know Snakebyte, I guess I spoke to soon. I am starting with the starter, and I have tryed kicking her over as well. No I did not bench sync them. I did not set the floats nether. And yes the intake boots are cracked. :( I think I know were this is going to take me. I admit it I have gotten in a hurry.:pinch: I have wondered about the intake boots being a little dry. I am posting some pics of the boots, you tell me what you think. When I took the carbs off they didn't look to be cracked al the way thru, but they may be.

So you have more resistance on the primary side of the coils and less resistance on the secondary side. I think I see a couple of coils in your future.
That picture is too small to see any thing. Before you post a pic take a look at the atributes to make sure it is not too big maximum is 550 wide by 800 tall.
the pic is the maximum is 550 wide. only366 tall.

srobie... The primary resistance of 6 Ohms and the secondary at 23 K Ohms (23000 Ohms not 23 Ohms) is too high. This means that the coils are old and tired and resistance has crept up. The coils will run real hot and the problem will only worsen as they heat up every time you start the bike. Buy some new coils... I suggest Dyna green coils; www.z1enteprises.com has about the best price on them. Higher resistance makes for a much poorer spark. A poor spark will ensure the bike never starts easily and performs poorly. Doing the coil repowering mod on our website won't help all that much.

6 ohms on the primary is too high (you did disconnect the coils before measuring, right?), but 23 Kohms on the secondary is correct for the 77 KZ 650.

Oops, typo fix.

This kind of what I thought. The coils are the real problem. Like I said I am on my second set of used coils. I think I am going to have to find a new set. I am looking at the green coils you guys suggested. But are they meant for electronic ignition or points? They also say they are 3 ohms, thought my bike needs 4ohms or does that 1 ohm not make a difference? I know that 6 ohms was high, but I am getting 16kohms on secondary, which is too low. So I need to get some coils. and move on from there. I have already done the coil repower mod found on your site wiredgeorge. It did help. Before it needed starting fluid for every start. Now it only needs it for that 1st start then after that starts everytime once warmed up.

Finally got it to post large enough to see. You can see alittle cracking going on. The intake boot is a little dry. But I need to focus on getting those coils. Anyone have any good ones lying around? That will work for my 77 kz650, and test good.

Replace the carb holders. If you leak air, the bike WILL be hard to start and you WILL hole a piston eventually. If you intend on keeping this bike, replace the coils, plug wires/caps and ignition with Dyna components. I am sure that z1enterprises.com probably has a real good price on these things and the carb holders.

Hole a piston? From drawing water? What would cause the hole?
