That would put the gearbox as absorbing about 8 Kilowatts, and the chain about 5kw, in which case it should be glowing red hot.
You mean yours doesn't?

the only dyno i worry about is the seat of my pants horsepower is just a number ,putting it to ground is whats important.if it dont hook up or you dont know how to use it all the horsepower in the world wont do you any good:evil:
Horsepower isn't really anything actually besides an equation. It's an arbitrary number, made up by someone to sell stuff. It's like the term "democracy". It's not tangible, its not naturally occuring in nature, and it's a man made concept.
Torque, on the other hand, IS something pretty awesome.
Why build a motorcycle for horsepower? It's pointless. It's a small, lightweight machine. Build them for torque and they are more fun. Look at the old kawi triples! :woohoo:
PS: Like the new avatar! They were the absolute best.

Would you be happy with 100 ft lbs of torque at 1000 rpm and 1 ft lb of torque at 5000 rpm? If so, then what you want is a diesel powered motorcycle
Torque will get you there.
HP will get you there faster.

72 H2 750 torque 7.9 kg-m at 6500 rpm
78 KZ1000 A2A torque 8.1 kg-m at 6500 rpm
76 KZ750B1 torque 6.0 kg-m at 3000 rpm
80 KZ750E1 torque 6.4 kg-m at 7500 rpm
79 KZ1300A1 torque 11.8 kg-m at 6500 rpm
83 GPz1100 torque 10.2 kg-m at 8000 rpm
I'm reasonably certain that a 83 GPz1100 would beat a 79 KZ1300 at the drag strip and in top speed, but if torque is king and nothing else matters, then obviously we should all be riding KZ1300's (or 750 twins)
I'd like to see a torque curve for all the above bikes, just to see if the 750 twin would beat all others at 3000 rpm
I can't find the torque rating for the GPz750 Turbo at the moment.

HP = Torque x RPM / 5252
Torque will get you there.
HP will get you there faster.

Yes HP tells you how much work can "potentially" be done in a given amount of time. Torque alone does not tell you that.

OK, I've read it. I can't see anything there that explains what happens to the 14HP (10 Kilowatts!) my drive chain is absorbing according to your rule of thumb though. Maybe it errr...evaporates?
Hopefully you can explain, as we are building a 1000hp bike and I don't want the chain absorbing 60hp. That's a whole engine's worth for some people!
