So, after reviewing the procedures, I am confident that the cable and lever have been adjusted correctly. I'm just not getting any movement on the push-rod. So, could the spring plate be stuck against the friction plates? I'm about to lay it on its side and check it open. Any tips before I do this?

Dealers choice. The female post of the spring plate could be corroded to the male post of the clutch hub. The pusher could be froze up in the tunnel where the push rod lives. At worst you might need a new clutch cover gasket but that’s it just to take it off. Most time just leaning it on the side stand is enough to keep 90% of the oil in the engine.

also good JIS screwdriver and maybe a impact driver to get the screws out. I think there are 2 that are longer. Make sure you watch length

Thankfully, the previous owner replaced all the screws with allen head screws. About the only useful thing the previous owner did.

On most motor covers the longer screws generally go into holes with dowels.  If in doubt, place the cover then completely insert all the screws without turning them.  They should all stand proud by the same amount, 1.5CM or so.  Differences due to length errors will be obvious.

So, I opened up the clutch cover and all the plates are stuck together. I can't get them apart with my hands so I'll have to pry them apart somehow. I suspect this is my issue. I'm just going to go ahead and get a rebuild kit and gasket of z1. Otherwise everything looks good. The push rod is moving smoothly and engaging the little push mechanism at the other end of the ball bearing.

Was the clutch cover also stuck to the plates? You could soak them in engine oil to see if they will release

The clutch cover was not stuck to the plates. Now that I'm thinking about it, does it really make sense that I would have issues with the push rod not moving if all the clutch plates are stuck together?

I’d think not. If the cover wasn’t stuck to the fiber and steel lump, it should still move away from the plates. The plates fuse might not be the problem but a result of the clutch not working.

You said the rod was moving smoothly, is that with the clutch cover off? an old racer trick was to use valve springs as clutch springs. I never tried it but you may have the wrong springs.

Yea, rod moves smooth without cover. Haven't tried putting it all back just yet. I guess they could be valve springs, but I'm kinda doubting it. BTW, got all the clutch plates separated with some oil soaking. Tha js
