Do it now. The thread is 14mm x 1.25. Angle is critical or the plug can hit the seat.

May need a big cert for that hole. The angle is critical so do yourself a favor take the head off and find a shop that can do it for you.
Wish I had.

If you get the hole crooked no matter what you use the plug can hit the valve plus the cast in seat is very close to the hole. If the hole is on the wrong angle the plug won't seal against the head.

Probably going against the grain here a bit but I recently came across a test of the pull out strength of various thread repair options. Helicoil was the strongest - JB weld the weakest Timesert in the middle.

One last question for the day. Easiest way to get something out of the crank case? I got a magnet bendable thing, cause I dropped a couple of piston snap rings down in there. And then the magnet light I had somehow came unscrewed and something else fell in. I got the battery out. But I’m sure something else might be there.

Also taking this to a shop isn’t an option for me. One because everyone I call won’t work “old bikes”. And the one I found that will work with me is talking about getting me in in 2 weeks. No way! And also I’ve spent the budget already. It’s DIY from here on out

Those valve seat are still far from okay. They'll need reseating to make them airtight.
you should he able to get the bits you dropped in the cases by removing the sump.
It sounds like you need to find a local enthusiast to give you a hand. BTW, theres no such thing as a budget when it comes to old bikes.
where are you located,?

Pull the pan. Try not to flip it over, hopefully the bits are laying in the oil residue on the pan. It’s cheap insurance anyway. You can clean up the pan and oil pump screen. Good piece of mind for the $40 cost of a pan gasket.

I’m in Wilmington North Carolina. I’ve yet to find any help. I called the one custom shop that does similar bikes. He said he only takes on ground up builds and doesn’t have time to do small jobs for guys like me. It made me not like his Magnus opus custom shop that’s in Wilmington. He offered no assistance. Didn’t even refer me to anyone else. I’m in this by myself and this forum!!!! lol
and yes. I’ve spent 300 dollars just today. I’m just trying to be reasonable for my wife’s sake.....

I pretty sure I got all the bits out! I will not reinstall until I’m 110% sure. Thanks for the help!
