Which kit to buy? was created by SWest
The opportunity has finally arrived. I'm trying to decide which kit I should buy. I know the 1075 is tried and true but is there any advantage in a 1105 kit? Will it run too hot? I plan on APE crank studs valve seals too. I will be sending the spare block out to be bored to match the new pistons.

1105 isn't much advantage over 1075 and leaves the stock liners very thin and prone to cracking of the lower skirt and also premature oil burning due to microscopic distortion of the liners when hot..
I avoid going that size unless thicker liners are fitted.
If you are on stock 70mm i'd go 1045 which isn't much difference than 1075 performance wise and leaves room for the future while giving a very noticeable power increase very close to the 1075.
As for 1075, there's a reason why every one goes for that :)

I guess it's the 1075 then. Any other reason others go for that?

Years ago my first bore kit for my Kaw- 77- 1000A was a Wiseco 1105 kit, (10.25 comp). With cams and carbs, no head porting , it made a big overall power increase. I did not ride it a lot, so I didn't have issues with what zed1015 has mentioned, and I believe that he is spot on. Is bigger better ? Good luck to you..

I went ahead and ordered the 1075 kit from Z1E. I also picked up the spark advance I always wanted. The kit comes with gaskets and the best thing is free shipping and NO TAX. :woohoo: I contacted Indio Motor Machine but they don't do motorcycles anymore. They referred me to another shop down there. I'll contact them today and get a price. Too bad, Miller used them and my friend Jeff recommended them. It might be a good thing finding a new shop to do the work being I've been out of the loop since the 90's. Time to clean up the spare barrels to have the bores matched when the pistons arrive. B)
I'll use this thread to report the progress of this stage in Bossie's development. I'll also ask about welding the crank and if it's affordable I may do it along with APE studs and main plate. We'll see.
BTW, the receipt says Dime City Crew, what's up with that?

This is what I'm dealing with now. The tolerances are at the limit so it's time to go bigger.

They have like three different names they go under depending upon what make bike you have when you order parts. I think Dime City is the vintage Kawasaki outlet. FYI, I did the 1045 kit on my KZ-1000 so if needed I could possibly get one more rebuild out of the sleeves. So far so good with almost 500 miles on the old girl. Still working bugs out of it though.

Z1 Enterprises, Mike's XS, and Dime City Cycles all got bought out by the same company and ship from the same warehouse...I was thinking all that info was covered quite extensively on this site.

The cylinders are cleaning up but I think I can hear some piston slap. The bores are on the outside edge of tolerance. Now to find a shop that can bore to match the new pistons. Meanwhile I'll RIDE THE PISS OUT OF IT. :woohoo:

You might try "Ted's Garage 13", 909-790-1313. He is in Yucaipa. I don't know if he does machine work, but he might know where to go..
