Must have been water in the cylinder. The ports hadn't been touched until I did them.

I've included a couple of close up photos of #2 combustion chamber and valves. Difficult to provide any measurements as there is nothing easy to measure from.

There is no radius on the intake or exhaust....pretty much straight into the chamber. When you mentioned it I thought well maybe....maybe someone ported the intake and exhaust on that head.

You can see the different cuts on the valve seat, (in my photo) as well as the lap for the valve. Those are all original..I have not yet re-lapped the valves.

On the valves you can see the different angles as well as the final lapped portion from when the head was new. Valves still need some more cleaning.

FYI - The early Z1 head had synchro ports located on the head for about the first 2,500 bikes. At that point they switched to the synchro ports on the intake boots. They also started Z2 production around the same time. Heads and all internals were the same for Z1 and Z2.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I thought so. Wonder if it was a later model thing? Seems flow would be improved.

This must be a virgin head. No evidence of the seats being changed.

Considering the oil burning, what are your plans with regard to the cylinders and piston rings?

Probably would have done that too, if the cylinder I had was usable.
Had to find another anyhow, since the nice one I sent Joe Hooper arrived damaged with fins broken and a couple sleeves knocked loose.
I boxed the cylinder with lots of padding, but it wasn't fastened to a board the way Joe does it. Oh well.

Can't wait to start fresh in the Spring with the top-end work all over and done, and the replaced starter clutch too.
Hoping to just get on and ride without a care in the world, especially about oil for a change. Yeah!

I reused the rings when I tipped my valves. This time new rings, valves and Viton valve seals. I have my choice of sleeves to use just in case so hopefully they'll seat and no more oil burning. Won't know for sure until I open it up.
