I hope you realize that the broken cooling fin is going to fall off somewhere in the weeds and get lost Steve. JB weld is some good stuff, but not that good. I have used it to repair pitted master cylinder bores and a plethora of other things in the past, but that is a location / use that it will likely fail rather quickly. Then the fin will be gone for good. Now is the time, no, actually when your first started on the head was the time to get it welded, prior to any machine work . It can still be done. Not trying to urinate in your whole wheat Wheaties, just trying to keep you from making a costly mistake.

I would rather have had it welded and might still. If not it's a bottom one so if it falls off, so be it. It was a piece of sheet aluminum I have on hand. If I spend any money it will be on the one I take off the bike.
Thanks for caring. :)

Allrightie then. I thought it was the original fin, But then again.. that head was really thrashed from what I saw of it. You bought valves for it, might as well fix the fin. or I may not have the full scope of the actual condition of the head Thanks for not taking offense. As Jack Nicholson said in that movie about the truth. lol

That one combustion chamber is the deal breaker. Like Jeff said even with a wire welder it might distort the valve seat. That along with mismatched cam caps make it still a junk head. Better than the ones Oink is selling but not by much.
At least I'll be in the wind and RIDING THE PISS OUT OF IT :woohoo: until I can save for something better.
A 1075 kit, larger valves and better cams comes to mind. B)
BTW I really should get a new cam chain and would like to install some APE crank studs. At that point I could have the crank welded as well.

Looks pretty good Steve! Are you going to grind those valve seats or just lap the valves? And did you put new valve guides in?
