I punched the ID of the oblong thrust bearing dowel hole to center and secure. Applied Loctite primer and 620 then tapped it in straight.

I'll let cure and do final assembly tomorrow.

I could have too but I wouldn't have Bossie. She gets notice wherever we go. I always was a loner. Being one of the pack just never was for me.:woohoo:

Got it all together. I think I might feel a tight spot turning the crank. Tuff to tell holding the chain and the rods dragging on the case.

Had the same thing. I relieved the punch marks on the one damaged journal and made sure the spare race fit well. With the case upside down and the tranny on blocks I could spin the crank without the rods hitting. It would spin three times but then I could feel a very slight drag. not enough to slow it down but it was there. I have about 1000 miles on it now. No noise and she runs like a SCALDED CAT.:woohoo:
You might want to give it another look.

Yeah, somethings not right. I can't feel the endplay by hand, only prying back and forth on the crank.

Man, I can't do this again...

Tore it down. Looks like it was all in the main cap. Couldn't feel the endplay until I broke it loose.

I'm thinking about getting another case before cleaning everything up and trying again. I don't even know if this case is mine. The dirtbag that did the engine installed a twisted/welded crank from another bike.

What do you mean? Try filing out the punch marks and try it again. That's where the crank twisted right?

It's gonna take me half a day just to get the loctite off all the bearings and the case to try again. Meanwhile I see a case on ebay for $70.

Not bad, but not being able to shift it back and forth to check endplay tells me it's not straight in the bore. I'm pushing it down from the lower case and main cap, but if the gaps aren't the the same on the upper case I may be fighting a losing battle. Maybe a better fix may have been just fixing the dowel hole and applying the locktite.

Right now the dimples in the main cap are almost flat, but if I tighten it down just slightly it won't move back and forth. Like the two center bearings are sitting lower in the upper case, That's exactly where I think the twisted crank was applying force.
