I do carbs into head rubbers, then airbox rubbers onto carbs, it isn't easy though, I'm tempted to go pods just to make life easier.

I wonder how they did it at the factory? I know what you are saying but I am trying to get back to stock.

Thanks!

You put the carbs on with the back tilted upward, once in and tight, you use a probe to fit the two inside boots onto the carbs, then the outside ones. If the boots aren't soft you should get some new ones. Z1E has them among other places.

If the air box boots are not soft enough, hit them with a hair dryer to make them a little more pliable.

I put mine in cups of hot water to make them more pliable.

They probably had a tool to stretch the rubber over the carb, though I bet brand new rubbers are a lot better than the 34 year old ones on my Z

New airbox ducts are very easy to install because they are relatively soft, so your best bet is to replace them with new ones. At the most it takes 5 minutes to hook new ones up to the carbs. Be sure to unbolt the airbox brackets (if your model has them) so you can move the airbox toward the rear a little bit as that makes the job easy (with new ducts). Ed

If the ducts are soft, you may not need to bother with the airbox brackets. I don't. On my 81 650 I install them from inside the airbox & push the ducts thru the holes. This may not be possible on some models. i don't know what model the topic bike is.

That's interesting.. Mine is a 1980 kz1000. The air filter opening is rather small but that might work. I bought new hoses and that helped a lot.
