Re: kz550 Big Bore 615cc Yeah or Nay?
15 May 2016 16:24I guess that is what I am not used to. Having come from big CC bikes and not being in that range that often other than going ape shit for a brief moment or two. But on a positive note, look what came in the mail to compliment the bike today. Not sure if I am going to keep the flip up face mask or go with the goggles.DoctoRot wrote: Like Tyler said, these motors are designed to rev and it will be absolutely fine at 7500 for thousands of miles..

UPDATE.
Finally got out on the open road and had it up to 75 on the Freeway and was a tad under 6000 RPMs which is rock solid. Even at 85+ It did not shake or vibrate or anything. What it comes down to is me having to get used to the no baffled pipe and shortness of it where it basically exits right by by my feet which I am not used to. All bikes I have had have had pipes that have extended farther back. Bike road like a champ. Probably just need earplugs while riding. I appreciated everyone's input. I am going to leave the 17T front sprocket in and not mess with the 40T rear. Love the bike for what it is.

Just the wind noise from 75 would surprise most I bet ....... my DB meter I use for my home stereo reads over 120 when I stick it out the door of my quiet car.......... is illegal to ride with ear plugs and I don't use a helmet but I've cheated more than a few times and went with a little bit of paper towel.....

Bad idea. I bet I'm not the only one on this site whose life was saved by a helmet. Stuff over which you have absolutely zero control can happen really fast. In my case it was a dump truck. Ed

I didn't have a helmet in the wreck. That's why I'm so pretty. Lucky I landed on my face. :woohoo:

I always ride with earplugs in. I have had my ears ringing for a couple days after some long days at 80mph, i cant even hear the engine, just the scream of the wind at that speed.

28 May 2016 12:12So is an ubaffled pipe but what the hell. Maybe an earplug in the right ear and an ear bud in the left with Billy Squire, AC DC, and Foreigner.KZB2 650 wrote: It is illegal to ride with ear plugs.....

Just installed an 8" baffle from Dennis Kirk and love the gains. Back pressure is nice! The bike still pops between shifts. Is there a way to get rid of that. I am asking because my wrench guy says no but YouTube videos say yes. Throttle Rev to decelerate is pop, pop, pop. My 83 GS1100 with pods and VH pipe never popped like my KZ550. If so, any kit recommendations?
