Are any oil filters NOT made in China?
13 Apr 2016 15:05
I just received a Mobil-1 oil filter (M1MC-172). It is made in China. The last K&N filter (K&N-401) I bought was also made in China. I compared the two filters, and they obviously are made in the same factory. Other than the color of the media and the name everything about them is identical including the number of pleats and even the number cast into the rubber o-rings. The old K&N filters which were made in Thailand were higher quality and had more pleats, but I have nearly exhausted my supply of them. Are there any motorcycle oil filters currently being made outside of China? Ed

I think the Wix oil filters are still made in USA. That's what I use and they are larger than stock. I get them ay OR.

I always use Honda filters. I bought a bunch 25yrs ago, so not sure where they are made, but doubt Honda sells chinese filters. Here's one place that has them for $6.99. There may be a better price if you search a litlle.

Edit: I see the stock Kawasaki is pretty much the same cost. Used to be the Honda was like 1/2 the price.

Good eye Ed........... was gonna spring for K and N's or Mobil 1s myself but will probably go with the Honda or Kawasaki 16099-003s now........ I would sure think they are still made in Japan and would be a step up.
Dang I thought so too Steve but Looked up Wix and I see they have a lot of factory's in the good old USA but also in China and others too so it could be a crap shoot too.

At some point there was a list compiled of which filters were identical to which and/or made by the same company. That was 10 years ago, I don't remember what happened to it, but it is likely different now anyway.
I stick with Purolator or STP. They were supposedly the same filter (and appeared to be when I last compared them), and luckily I could get them at Pepboys or Autozone..
A large number of different filters were actually Fram, which I've avoided.

I saw a comparison where the STP filter was cut open, the top and bottom holding the filter was cardboard.

As much as we change our oil, it shouldn't matter.

13 Apr 2016 19:52 - 13 Apr 2016 19:53I've been using HiFlo filters and change the 15-40 Rotella T oil and that filter every 2000-2500 miles. Makes me feel good and hope it's cheap insurance.Nessism wrote: Hiflo are made in Thailand. Comes with two O-rings and are cheap.

This shocked the hell out of me. FRAM, at least these ones were made in Italy. I bought them clearance from Rockauto.com. Bought the 10 they had left for $2 or $3 each. They come with new gaskets. The boxes are all faded so they sat on a self for a long time somewhere.
