I'll probably just change 3, 6, 7, and 8 then check them again next spring. Now to get the timing fixed and hopefully I can shake loose the kink that's probably in the chain.

If you replace them you'll have the right sizes for a couple of the marginal ones.

While your doing it I wonder if you should do #1 and #5 too getting them up to .006 ....... could save you from doing it again for a good long while...... I did all mine closer to .006 to .007 just for that reason. Don't tighten the cam holder bolts anymore than 70 to 80 "inch lbs" too..... I went 70 to be on the safe side........

Well I finally got the valves taken care of and the bike is idling a million times better and compression is great now that I threw some mystery oil in the cylinders. I pulled the carbs at some point in the process to do something else and when I put them back on I had zero vacuum on carb 4 and carb 3 was pouring fuel out the overflow. I finally ally gave up and took it to a mechanic today though

Nothing wrong with bringing it to someone when you've decided its time. I didn't even want to try messing with carbs so I sent mine to WG. When they come back I shouldn't need to worry about them at all!

Bear in mind that a good quality fuel filter will go a long way toward preventing overflowing carbs due to a tiny piece of debris caught in a float valve.

Wrong! They still need to be synchronized! Bench synchronizing is not perfect.

The crank has 2 to 1 leverage on the cam shaft. And the cam has a lot of leverage at the beginning of movement. So be careful. When it stops, you stop.

So you saying bench synchronizing is perfect if done right and bike adjustment is not needed?
Holding wire under slide doesn't seem like very complicated job to me.
