in that post above, it recommends the copper High temp RTV, that stuff works well to keep the gaskets in. I did use the tape. I also found that using a wire wheel on the old collars works really well to get the carbon off.

I also used that wheel on the flanges got them down to bare metal and hit them with the high temp paint. See how long that lasts....

I was looking for a new set of flanges, but dang they are pricey. NOS kawi metal is $$$ they must hide gold in the steel...

Yo guys. I fixed it. So pumped. First time it sounds right since I owned it.

I ended up using a Suzuki gasket and had to also double up with another copper crush.

I'll get correct flanges so next time it comes off it will go on the way it should but until then thank you all!!!!!!

Mine does it to and really bugs me when there is no option to revolve the photo when inserted.

Grnole wrote: It also does not look like your flanges have not been altered either. attached are what mine look like... And when I install them... they need to be notched or else they do not fit.

I wonder why I am having issues with mine. Somewhere along the way I likely have different parts than I should.......

Those look like mine. I like them. Off a Susie. Deeper grooves.

Yes. The do look like yours. What is the "susie" model designate? Its unfortunate that they were grinded down and cut so much to fit on my bike. I don't really like when people mod good parts instead of getting the right parts. But they fit sort of. Using the 4 to 1 VH and those flanges, I really had to get some space out of my gaskets had to use the equivalent of almost 3 standard crush to get a good seal. (1 GS gasket and 1 copper crush)

I used a piece of aluminum wire to make shims to fill in some of the groove. I'll take pics this morning. I don't remember the model they came from. I'm only using the out side ones and stock in the middle. I think they look hot. :woohoo:

oh - and an FYI. If you have a wife or girlfriend in the house, one whom wears hair in pony tails. Ask them for the clear throw away rubber bands used for that... They work perfectly to hold collars on. They burn up immediately.

And... holy smoke show on my newly wrapped headers!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:    The people this AM in my morning commute stayed away thinking I was on fire at the stop lights!! HAHAHA love it!!!

What, does that stuff glow when hot or is it the rubber bands burning off?
