'82 GPz750 Exhaust replacement options?
22 Aug 2015 13:31
Thinking ahead some more about my GPz mods and I know I need to put a new exhaust on it. The stock mufflers are a beat up, don't fit up tight and I think are just plain ugly. I don't think I'll be able to do a full 4-1 or 4-4 exhaust replacement right now. The headers seem to be in OK condition so I'd like to get something on the end of them that don't look and sound so bad. I search for GPz exhaust and pretty much get 4-1 sets that I don't think are currently doable. What should I be looking for in replacement slip-ons? There isn't really any fitment info on motorcycle mufflers like there are on cars and I don't want to waste a bunch of money and effort that isn't going to be productive.
I'm not really looking to increase performance, efficiency would be a plus but also not necessary. Not looking to have to do re-jetting or anything like that either.
Any helpful info would appreciated since I'm at more of a loss than I started.

None of the above will bolt right on. You'll need to stay 1985 or older. OR find a mid-90's Zr750 Zephyr/ early-2000's Zr7s system as they were all based on the same air cooled engine design.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationSome universal slip on mufflers might work. JC Whitney has some.
There is a set of Spectre mufflers on ebay in good shape that may work okay until you can afford something better.

I need some baffles from the stock mufflers if you find that you are going to junk them. I have a good stock exhaust that had the baffles removed by the previous owner

JCWhitney is PIA POS. It wont let you browse without putting vehicle info in which errors out when I do. I kinda like these though.

Those are uglier than the ones I have.Nessism wrote: Some universal slip on mufflers might work. JC Whitney has some.

All my mods I plan on making reversible so I plan on keeping anything that might be useful IF I ever want to restore this bike.mjg15 wrote: I need some baffles from the stock mufflers if you find that you are going to junk them. No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI just went out and measured my pipes. They're 1 1/2" so those biltwells wont work.
These look promising especially since it's for the set but I wish they clamped on.

I think that header will fit. Someone took a ZR-7 header and hacked off the rear section and clamped on that Kerker muffler. Doubt there is much in the way of tuning effect but who cares at that price. The header is stainless steel and could be cleaned up nicely if you desire.

Is there some way to double check? I'd like to jump on this if it does. If it's stainless I'm not scared of some scotch bright and flitz or having them ceracoated.Nessism wrote:GPzMOD750 wrote: So would this work from '01 ZR750 H1?

What the hell! I bought it. If there's no way it will work I can always relist them.
