exhaust valves crappy what how to clean them was created by donthaveakawman
exhaust valves are caked with white or black sut, depending which one. what are some opinions that are best suitable for cleaning them with the exhaust off and the engine still assembled?
pretty sure the cause is the carb vacuum slides are sticking due to the needle holder jet or secondary main jet holder.

without pulling your head to clean carbon deposits that is the best way. if you were to pull your head theres many solvents and methods to clean valves, if you try to use a tool of any kind in there thru the exhaust port the crud is gonna fall into the chamber to some extent. so its all or nothing really, pull the head or seafoam in my opinion. just advice. worth every penny of what ya paid for it.

I have attatched some photos and am starting with a brush and marvel mystery oil. I would have to be nuts to go out on a day like today, which I did and I almost got blown off the road with the wind.

chill out im trying to help you, i see what your talking about and using the seafoam and fogging the motor while revving it will clear that crud out, its too hard and crusty to try to scrub out. just trust me and put it back together and pour seafoam in the gas and squirt it in the carbs while you rev it, youll see stuff coming out the exhaust as it dissolves.

Alright you want to know how to clean it with the exhaust off?
Take a soda blaster and blow that carbon off the valves/ports.
Will it hurt the motor?
Well maybe, but that's not what you asked B)

Not that anybody asked, but that buildup is normal. I wish mine were that clean. If you really want to see a bunch of carbon crud, you should see whats on the inside surfaces of the valve faces and head.

What cleans it: the machine shop drops the head into something affectionately known as a "hot tank" which is filled with bubbling heated chemicals..... and you will notice nobody putting their hand in there.

If the valves are free you can soak them in Chemdip and take a stiff nylon brush to them.

I don't even know how anybody would take the time to sea foam one of these things. ;)
