TOP END CLEANER? was created by bountyhunter
I remember there was some kind of top end cleaner spray for cleaning out combustion chambers.

Anybody know where to get it?

Does it spray into the spark plug holes or do you have to suck it in a vacuum line?

I have used seafoam before. I was wondering if the top end cleaner was better.

I was wondering if the spray type could be hosed into a spark plug hole, but I don't think so. The instructions on the spray is to use it near the throttle plate with the engine running, like with any carb cleaner spray.

I guess Seafoam liquid into the intake vacuum line is still the best shot.

I think that the thread you are remembering was Otakar's and it was MOPAR top end cleaner. His head looked real clean to me. See your local Dodge dealer and don't be surprised when its $12 a can.

Somehow I picture that stuff wrecking the valve job. But hey if you're going to do it...how about a little test?

Do compression & if possible a leak down test on at least one cylinder before you douche it with "Ottomonia" Then do it again after you've run however much of that stuff you need to run through the motor..... Post results

Inquiring minds want to know :)

I did it on my 1992 Saturn two years ago so it would pass smog. It runs fantastic (especially considering it has 140k miles on it). Problem is the nazis running california arbitrarily reduced the smog test limits about 40% for HCs, COs, NOXs and now it can't pass even though it is in proper running condition and has a new cat converter. A good and faithful car that still runs great has just received a death sentence.

Another way to clean, is to use water. It creates steam and that does the cleaning. Hold the throttle open to get around 3K RPM and add a small quantity in the intake, the power brake vacuum line is a good spot.
You say new Catalytic converter, but did you replace both the up and down stream O2 senors? These should be replaced at the same time, always when changing the CAT, as they are its Body Guards. Also some on the car/in the tank injector cleaner? Then there is the MAF, Mass Air Flow Sensor. This will have the Hot Wire type. These get dirty and get a film on those precious little wires that sense the Gallon per minute air flow. You can get a can of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner, for around $8.
Hydro carbons high, maybe ignition missfire, or just to rich on fuel. Some fuel is not getting burned up completely.
