Have made similar X bracing in the past, and will do so also on the GPZ, just lighter
check the early pictures and youll see four ears i've welded in that area. I am going to bolt there a 1/8" ally plate that will do a similar job.
not sure as to why they did the removable frame as it doesnt really reduce weight or increase rigidity. maybe it has to do with the fact that they mix and matched an earlier 550 front frame with a later uni track suspension, don't know...
considered doing it too but a quick check showed that the whole steel rear subframe weights 4 lbs while a replacemnet ally one + mounting hardaware would be 2 lbs in the best case.
As i work all alone and dont have a team of people doing stuff for me just, it was not worth the effort in my book.
Not sure our rulebook would have allowed it either. here in italy they are really into the period look thing and modern forks, 17" wheels, and many other modifications that never existed back then are not allowed. I actually like the fact that it is true vintage racing rather than vintage/modern Frankensteins

i'll be using the complete ignition system of a 90's gsxr
as it has only one pickup no problems with the timing of the two pairs not matching
it'll be mounted to a honda sohc4 plate....

and its going to be capped off by my DIY heavy duty, crash resistant cover.
made it originally for my sohc4 but turns out it works well also on the Kawi. RSC stands for Racing Service Corporation, Honda's sporting arm before it became HRC.

Coming along nicely! Are you going to run it naked or with a fairing?

Looking good Turbo. I really like the motor mounts. Should be a good handling bike.
