hi patton

many thanks for the brilliant photos! i've never seen them before!

thanks again for helping me. i'm getting really excited on starting the bike for the first time. i've a friend who is a bike mechanic. he wants me to ride the bike to his shop and then he will safety check and adjust my efforts!
everything works so far. all the pilot lights come on.
the head and taillight and turns all work. they flash.
fingers crossed now!.

i'm just waiting for a warm day to clear coat the gas tank and throttle assembly housing. just been painted by me.
the 2k clear didn't set after 2 months. the paint smudged and this is not good. the tank was stripped of the soft paint and then i'd it powder coated. it looks really good! just needs glossing now!

many thanks for all the techie info. i've cut and pasted in for working through over the next few days.

regards

angie

A forum member "Loudhvx" has been using a replacement for the Kawasaki "IC Igniter" on his 550 for a number of years.

He used off the shelf GM electronic ignition modules. This will only work with bike's having the mechanical igntion advancer.

I'll try to post the website, sometimes it goes, sometimes not so much:

home.comcast.net/~loudgpz/GPZweb/Ignition/GPZgmHEImod.html

Another forum member "Scorly"(Scorley?) from your side of the pond did this modification fairly recently. The problem he had was finding the electrical terminals to fit the modules male pins.

Here's a cross index I made for different manufacturers of the same modules:

hi mfolks

a big thank you!
gosh you really know your techie stuff!
i'm getting a bit lost on the tech side, at the moment. one bit at a time, my dad said!

i've now put a tiny bit of engine oil into the sparky holes for an overnight soak!.. i will hand crank the engine tomorrow with a 17mm wrench. by friday my gas tank and throttle will be clear gloss hardened. i might wait until monday next to fire it up! i'm concerned about the clear being hard enough to handle etc.
i want to hear the dinosaur roar mfolks!.. i will be down the road like evil kenevil!
ye ha.. with a big grin on my face!

best wishes

angie

When that bike fires up for the first time make sure to have a camera ready. We would all love to see the big giant smile on your face. :) :) :) I smiled for days when mine fired up after a 13 year hiatus.

There's nothing quite like bringing an old bike back to life! The bike will snort, sputter, clear it's throat and hopefully settle down to a steady rpm.

Have aux cooling on hand in the form of a fan if you're worried about overheating. If you've read forum members "Motorheads" thread about charging system testing, he dicovered the perfect aux cooling system for his bike hanging on his shop wall: A twin 12 volt cooling fans from a vehicle(maybe a Toyota, as I know they use 12 volt fans).

Perhaps a vehicle scrapper would have this for you and your side of the pond.
