It looks basani but my friends basani doesn't have the welded on clamps. His are the stock clamps with the shims to hold them on. My guess would be a mac but there are so many varieties and some were copies of the genuine article it seems. Keep us posted. I'd like to know just out of curiousity.

Nice otokar, nice. So this is a keeper for sure then. I would love to find a pipe like that laying around.

Thank you, saxjonz and otakar.

I've been looking for information about this kind of Bassani pipe and baffle but no luck.
Will try to refinish it anyway when I get to it.

I believe I have one in my yard shed (which is now buried under snow) but mine is Chrome. I might be willing to get rid of it. From what I remember, it is in very nice shape.

WOW..Thanks for this post guys, I have a pipe exactly like that, but chrome. I had no idea what I had. I ended up fabricating a baffle for mine, as I could not find one to fit it. I'll post some pics of my baffle later after I go to the shop. My pipe still had the end cap, so making the baffle was pretty easy. Tybolt99: I could weld you one up if you would like, pm me.

We really should meet up this spring. I am really frustrated with my bike at the moment. Had the engine done with the .410 cams and 1075 kit and now I find the head gasket leaked and the cam lobes have worn out and are garbage. I just feel like rolling both of these bikes to the alley and letting them go. I spent a lot of money on these parts to find they were going to fail. I just don't get it. I am stupid I should have left the bike stock. For the money I have spent I could have had a nice restored z and a new bike to boot that I didn't need to modify to make go fast. I guess I am just sulking but I just don't get why this stuff failed. I changed the oil regularly and never let it go low. I wonder if anyone else has had these problems with their bikes when they put big cams in.

New cams need a chance to work harden; which will make the steel tougher. So you need to make sure you use an oil with high levels of zdp when they are new to protect them.

At least that's what my mechanic tells me, sorry you hit a rough spot. We all feel that way sometimes. The joy and feeling of accomplishment vintage bikes bring is often tempered with expensive mistakes.

Ouch...

This is exactly why I'm not planning on doing much more to my 900. If I can dig up another one I'll spend the cash, but for now, I love having this bike and don't want it to end.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. I'm sure someone here should have some insight to the cams.

Well, this is the deal with the cams. I guess what they said was that they overheated and it was because of oil starvation. I personally believe and I wrote a post and took some pics with my dilemma that OMR commented on and showed me his cams, I don't think the end of the intake was chamfered properly and I didn't know that those things happened but I believe the edges chipped off and wore the tappet and cam lobe and then the metal chips got in to all of the other lobes and scored them badly on intake and that stuff went down in to the oil pump and messed it up.
They said exhaust was good and that they would do one cam at their cost. I figured why not? It's not the full price and even though the cam bearings need replaced now which I am sure won't be cheap it'll get done. Gonna do a street back cut on the trans and going to weld and do the business with the crank in that perhaps I may go bigger in the near future or turbo the bike. The head is going to get done nicely ported and polished and matched to the j boots along with bigger stainless intakes and titanium springs, new guides and a heavy duty chain and rollers. I am in to this thing until she gets done. The powder coating and stainless engine bolts along with the polishing I have done will look SuWeet. I'm not going to sweat a few dollars lost. I think that might have happened from doing the toys for tots. So cold and the oil I didn't change from the 20 50 and then getting stuck and overheating. Whatever. Such is life.
Sorry to hijack this post. I was just a little depressed yesterday thinking about all the money spent on the rebuild and all of the money I will finish spending but in the long run she will be a piece of art that can scoot with the big boys and will make me very proud until the day I have to kill some sap for trying to steal it from me.

So maybe not to totally jack the post. I have a set of daytona pipes, anyone interested? Could trade a decent left ltd side cover for them.
