Anyone here ever have them to any motor work and what kind of results did you have with them, ie (problems after build) or anything. I have a 1977 KZ1000A with 8257 miles on it and only want to do it ONCE.

sorry to dissagree with plummen and timebomb but i know paul and his staff personally.
they do a TON of race stuff but he cut his teeth on kz's.
i've been to his shop, i've foldled his lectrons.
he is right up there in cost but he is in the top 5 in making these old girls run like they did off the showroom floor.
i have personally seen a motor come from germany with a blank check because the guy knew it would be done right.
( it was a h2 motor )
don't get me wrong, there is a ton of talent here who can do the same thing for far less money.

i guess the questions are as follows.
#1
what do you need done @ 8257 miles?
#2
speed costs money. how fast you want to go?

what are you trying to achieve?
stock rebuild or a powerhouse?

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

i know hes good,im just saying you can get a good motor built elsewhere for less money.hes got serious overhead to support which is a lot of what drives the price. B)

Paul don't have any overhead. His shop off of Grand Island Blvd. is a metal pre fab building. He still sells 3 or 4 sets of lectrons a week.
I had him back cut a tranny once, 10 years ago.
Try calling him in nice weather, Dana will tell you he is getting a hair cut or golfing.

Are you local or going to have this shipped.

If your local, Jim Mangus has a cylinder head shop in Buffalo, Jim ran a Top Fuel Nitro Kaw for years.

He does all my head work and cylinder boring

I haven't had any work done by FBG, but I have spoken to him on occasion with regards to a KZ and possible work. He was very easy to communicate with and seems like a stand up guy.

Paul was the man for H2 dragbikes clear back to the mid 70s. Been around a long time. I had some H2 work done back in 1993 and the job was flawless. Of course KZ is different than a H2 though.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I'm with Steve on the question of..."what do you need done @ 8257 miles?"

Hell, if truly that low mileage other than cam upgrade this you could do yourself... Unless wanting 1075cc upgrade, head port & polish... Timing components should be like new...

Grem... what are your plans in this?
Increased HP & torque...?
New technology & larger carbs...?:S
Low to mid range or WOT response is what your looking for?
How much you have in mind on spending?

Ok, now you have us guessing....

Yes i am local, @ 30 minutes from his shop. I just want something with a little more power then stock. The bike has 8257 original miles on it. My dad brought it home with 20 miles on it from old shop of Broadway ave for local guys.

The bike sat ourside for @ 15 years and just someothing that looks good rides better, then it looks, and something i can have for the next 15 years with minimal issues.

Thanks for all the replys.

in answer to your question this is what I want to have done:
1075 piston kit, new engine covers, mild head work and motor beadblasted to go along with 29 smoothbore and kerker exhaust.
