"The timing would not change because you set the cams with the crank on the f mark and moved the cams to reset them. The dyna and the crank are completely separate from the cams, and are locked together."

I'm not so sure about this statement, maybe I'm miss understanding (most likely).

Reasoning, the cam degreeing (valve opening/closing) and setup is to TDC.

The Dyna S is also static time based on TDC for ideal and desired combustion ignitions.

The crank rotation is controlling your camshaft/lobe valve operations via the timing chain...

All in all, these all work in harmony/unison and must be set accordingly or no worky for optimum performances.

Oh well, no biggy, hope it works out well for you big man! B)

Another way to look at it ---

Ignition timing. The spark plug fires when the crankshaft gets to a certain position during its rotation. The spark plug doesn't know what the valves are doing.

Cam timing. Determines when the valves open and close during crankshaft rotation. The valves don't know what the spark plug is doing.

Good Luck! :)

i m gonna pull the tank and check coil voltage , look at wires and plugs and give it the once over...started it after work tonite and still the same....i ran the crap out of it yesterday and anything that needed burned off should have been....its more white than anything, and its not a straight oil burn issue....only does it after about 6 secs on choke and quits after about 10 secs of cropdusting.....

Old hard worn valve seals typically cause exhaust smoke upon initial engine start-up, which smoking reduces or disappears after running a few miles.

Usually doesn't harm anything.

Good Luck! :)

Well since I just went through this recently due to my originally being cheap, have to ask....

Did you use Kawi OEM valve guides or 3rd party?

Since I had additional work accomplished in my head (New exhaust valves), I had these 3rd party crap replaced with OEM guides... Babbits, $9.00 each was the cheapest OEM I could find.

In speaking with others, it seems some 3rd party stuff can cause you grief, just won't hold up as well as OEM.
Sure, some things you can get buy with, some not...

As always, I learn the hard way....

Just a thought...

dave,
i had joe hooper(pitstop performance) go through the head... hes been around a long time and has a pretty good rep....i m not sure what he used as far as guides and seals, but i would be really surprised if he cheesed me on the quality...my impression is that he doesnt "roll like that"....

Wait one... Not guides, sorry my bad for I meant OEM seals..

I had obtained a complete gasket kit which had the seals in them... Unfortunately and not recommended from you know who and like a dumb ass I had them installed anyways...

Well guess what...sing to Doobie Bros tune "Smoke on the Water".... Smoke in the Head....

Not a lot of smoke but on start up would smoke for a couple seconds or so and in twisting the throttle would get a small puff....

With OEM seals, now all gone!

Ah well, keep up the post with your findings for I'm sure one or more of us will run into this same scenario in performance builds, tunning and tweaking for the optimum motor/engine builds...

Yeah.... if the "Doobie Bro's" were to sing "Smoke on the Water" they would have had to change their name to the "Bong" Bro's. :woohoo:

Valve seals have been the nemesis of my 750 twin. Kawi stopped making them a long time ago so aftermarket are all you can get. When the seals get leaky, the oil drains down through whichever valve is open when you park it and gunks up the valve seat. Eventually, the valves don't close tight and you have to do a head job. That oil drain down also never fails to find it's way to a spark plug and foul it.
