In the first video at about 1:23 I see your exhaust flange is about 1/2 inch off the engine. No way can I see that much of my 1/2 clamshells. On my 900 this would be leaking bad. My flanges come up close to the engine bolt boss. A lot closer than this. Is it possible you just have the exhaust too loose?

Exhaust flange are ok. My headers are custom made. I made them from stainless steel and I dont need exhaust inserts cos I weld rings on header tubes. Just like new modern bikes have.

I dont know is it suposed to be ok or not. Everything works.
i listened to the youtube clip before reading the last below staement....and was thinking the same thing, when you had the camera down on the chain cover area i could hear it clearly, the starter gear or a bolt working free in the alternator, stator and cover ect.. or somthing like that.....when you pull that cover i bet you see the grind spot and culprit....any shavings in your oil???....unbelievable bike...just really...really niceOldSchoolHr wrote:

it is very hard to tell from the video but if the sounds go away at higher rpm's and are just occuring around the idle rpm and it seems to me that it is happening in phase with the crankshaft rotation it could be the springs in the backing plate of your clutch basket over time they will pound out and get loose in the mounting slots that is why there are heavy duty spring and rivit kits available from outfits like ape, m.t.c and falicon. try listening around the clutch basket area a little closer .in all my high performance bikes i replace the stock baking plate springs and rivits because they do loosen up badly under hard acceleration and over time.

from the sound of vid, starter clutch area would be my guess....i dont think that big gear should have that much play either....i would get an ape manual cam chain tensioner also...but then again, what the hell do i know....nice bike by the way......

I was going to say exhaust leak as we but if you lean it to the right and the noise goes away, it's possible you have low oil pressure. When you lean it right a small amount of oil quiets a noisy bucket.

Today I pull off rotor and starter clutch. Rotor bolt was tight, starter clutch bolts were tight also. No sign of wear on starter clutch springs, pins, rollers, big starter gear or anything else. Everything look like new.
Next to review is right side, clutch and clutch basket.

Tough to tell from the videos. Sure sounds like cam chain to me though.
I would bring it to TDC on 1&4 and yank the tensioner. See if the plunger is sticking.

Last year I rebuild complet head, put new chain tensioner, central roller, all dampers, front chain guide...everything from this picture in red colour is replaced with new parts.
Few days ago I pull off valve cover and check everything again. Chain has tension and it seams ok. I pull of chain tensioner and reset it. It is clean and works just like new.
To avoid any doubt about cam chain I bought a new one, Tsubaki, so I will replace it in next few days.
The only thing that I cant see is front chain guide. When I was rebuilding head I found that guide was broken so I replaced it with new one. I cant see is it broken again but that would be weird cos I passed only 3-4000 miles since then.
