The '76 engine will have points and the coils which go with them. I don't know if the later model ignition componenets can be switched onto the engine, or if you will need new coils.

I suspect the power will be the same as other 750 twins (55 HP).

ok guys i have another question i got my engine put back together and its running pretty good compression back at 153 left and 156 right but when i check my timing its between the f and t on the mark at 1000rpm the manual says it should be right on the f it also says adjustment not nessasary so what do i do if its not right is adjustment even possible or should i even worry about it thanks

On mine, you adjust the timing by loosening the three screws that hold down the points breaker plate and twist it in the elongated slots the screws go through.

I think the crankshaft on the 750 twin turns CCW, so twisting the plate in the clockwise direction should advance the spark, move it CCW to retard the spark.

I have an electronic pickup that has no slots in it just 2 screw holes i see no way to move it bikes running really strong thru out the power band but the timing is right in the middle between the F and T at 1000rpm so i cut grooves to get timing on the F and runs like crap popping thru carbs I was really careful while timing the cams. could i have them off a bit with it running good is it worth messing with or am i chansing more damage thanks

Uncertain whether applicable to the bike at hand, but some models have an advancer that simply needs lubricating to allow its return to F mark alignment (such as 1979 KZ1000 with oem igniter and electronic pick-up coils).

Good Luck! :)

I'd put it back to the original stock position and ride it if it runs well that way.

Always good advice to clean and lube the mechanical advancer if it has one. After a while, the grease gunks up on them and they stick.
