hello everyone, im new on here and new to kz's, but not new to bikes, ive owned several and do most if not all of my own work, but for the life of me i cant get my new kz1000 started

Ok heres the background, i was replacing some cracked intake boots and sheared of a bolt, as i was trying to removed the sheared off bolt i cracked the intake, so i found another head and did a full top end rebuild on the bike, but for the life of me i cant get the thing to start.

As far as everything ive read my timing is ok, i set the "T" mark on the crank up towards the mark, and put the exaust cam toward the front of the engine level with the gasket surface, counted 44 pins starting with the pin right after the exhaust mark to the intake mark, turn the engine and it is free of any contact. i crank the bike and it puffs out the exhaust and pulled at the intake, and it chugs like it wants to start, but only one of my exhaust pipes is getting warm, theres good compression at all cylinders, good spark at all plugs, fresh plug wired and the wiredgeorge coil repower mod is completed. ive been slowly adjusting the crank to cam timing a tooth at a time, still cant get any better starting.

Ive been working on this project for 2 weeks, i have a clymer manual on the way but have not received it yet, and am missing a lot of excellent riding weather.

Sorry about the long write up, but i want you all to know what ive tried, any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, John.

if you cant fix it with a hammer and duct tape, get a bigger hammer and more duct tape!!

Are you running a stock air box or pods? You may just not be getting fuel to the cylinders. Try covering 2 or 3 of the carbs with your forearm while turning it over and see if it picks up the fuel to fire it off. If your gettin fire and you think the timing is good, it may not be getting fuel.

Are you getting good fuel flow to all four carbs? Could the floats be sticking closed? Drop the bowls and check fuel flow. Does the tank have a vacuum petcock and is it set in prime or pri? If so, this will allow gas to the carbs.

Well, Firstly, wellcome to the world of KZ's.
At first glance i'd say its fuel. only because u said only 1 pipe gets hot and u have spark on all4. the other thing would be timing. are all 4 plugs wet with fuel?

ok, it is getting fuel to all 4 cylinders, they are all slightly wet with fuel, i am running stock air box with a k&n air filter, ive tried starting fluid and it acts the same. just advanced the cams one more tooth, gunna give it go in a few minutes once fuel fills back up the carbs, also i tore down the carbs and cleaned them as well as bench synced, yes it has vacuum petcock and it is set on prime, fuel level in the bowls is good.
like i said im not a novice when it comes to bikes, its just this bike i havent received a book yet to help with the troubleshooting, im going off of my knowledge of yamaha engines and what people have told me and what i can find off the internet.

do you have the ability to do a leak down test....if so it will tell you right away if you have bent a valve....I have done this and it sucks...It will also eliminate a bent valve

are you getting a good hot spark? if so, then i am banking on the timing issue. if you are married or in a relationship, that also tends to cloud your mind or distract you from the important things in life.

yeah, im getting good spark, maybe the 44 pins to the intake mark is wrong, ive heard of a few different numbers, 40 and 43, but 44 puts the intake pointer towards the intake.

are you playing around with the amount of pins between marks?
if you have been and have tried to start it I would bet you have bent a valve or two
