Well i have a lot of questions! Was a Harley guy sold all that tired off wrenching to go riding.Spotted this bike, my Kz1000, bought it.Love It!I raced a guy on a Yamaha R6 Beat till we reached the higher speeds he went buy me.I want more power? So i have a 1978 Kz1000 with 29mm smoothbores,1075 kit.Yosh pipe old pipe getting new kerker. What else can i do?How much can i bore my cylinders?Would carb syncro help? What kind of cams could i go to?
Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.
Why Harley to kz?Because when i was a kid in the 80s,there were three guys in town who all had one. They rode together and those bike could not be touched they were scary fast.Always wanted one.
Had a hardtail chopper with a 1976 kz 900 in it.# years ago.And i could beat any new croch rocket in the quarter it was nuts.I feared that bike.
Wanted an orignal.
So here i am.And check this out Denvers Kawi choppr frame from 1970s,
Denvers Choppers Swingtail? Piece of History? Item number: 110148143989

Best Regards Ralph

web cams .395 just drop right in any much more lift you need a set of 650 shim under retainers and buckets

nitrous is a good option if you dont take it too far.

gear ratios on the final drive will help

cases need clearancing if you get a 1260 hi or low compression piston kit by Weisco (stock sleeves close to max at 1105cc)

mill the head and raise compression

put bigger gs 1000 valves in the head and smooth and straighten ports (kz i35/x30mm) (gs I38/X33mm) they go in easy too

slot the cam sprockets and dial the lobe centers in

lighten the bike overall
loose the charging system
etc...

1197 is the biggest safe bore in stock block with aftermarket sleeves.it depends on what has already been done to motor previously ,has head been ported, what cams are in it? i dont know about being a sleeper but the 1197 topend with 900 bottemend was always entertaning!:P

yep bigger than 1105 kit you need a set of sleeves I think.. I'm not sure if the 1197 kits are still available . but the 1260 you have to get sleeves and clearance the cases. bigger head/base gasket too (copper)

total loss electric is not streetable

Would a modded kz be able to beat a new 600? I would think that pretty much any current 600 would beat a modded kz1000. Most 600's with a pipe and pc will put out around 110 horses. And be pretty light. I could see beating a 600 until it spins up but once it is in the upper rpm ranges I'd think it would take the kz.

What type of power can you get out of a non-nitrous kz?

not to piss on ur party. but i dont think its really worth it to try and make these bikes beat the new ones.. not downing the old kaws at all. i love them but it would take more than just buying a new bike...

i thought about trying to build a beast motor for my z1 but the owner of exoticycle told me how much it would take to make it fast.. was well over the amount of a new bike. and thats with me doing all teh work...

iv ran 11.8(1/4 miles at bradenton, fl) on a 92 cbr600 f2.. and thats a pretty slow 600 the newer ones have close to/more than 150hp and weight around 350lbs..

theres a lot of sleeper kzs out there that will put a bad hurtin a sportbike especially if the rider of sportbike cant ride it!:P to the average person an old kaw with a plain label bigblock and a set of 1327s and a bigvalve head looks just like another 900/1000 i know of a guy on a certain warmed up gsxr1100 that will think twice and look a little closer before getting it on with an old looking bike! :P
