New riders was created by SWest
It can happen to the best of us. New riders need to take the classes and run with experienced riders before they take off on their own. How many mistakes can you spot in this clip?

We've been getting new riders here lately. I was hoping to start a dialog with them so others could share their experiences and maybe save them from the same fate.

Tried that a few times Steve, usually get a defensive, even abusive reply, Unless they ask, its not worth the crap, a lot of people just won't accept that they are doing anything wrong until they come to grief, even then some don't, or won't accept fault.... It blows my mind just how many people ride bikes, some for years, and still really have no idea how to control a bike properly, I suppose the same could be said for a lot of car drivers as well, I'm sure we all have a "car" story.... I highly recommend rider training courses, even for people riding for years, most people can still learn something from one, and you get to practice what you've learned on a track, with no oncoming traffic or obstacles, no point being a know all or hero on a motorcycle, you're just an accident waiting to happen....... Point fixation and poor braking skills are the mistakes that seem to be most common, not paying enough attention is another ...

How do you even think of_doing_ some of that stuff on the vids? Drifting into the shoulder on a gentle curve? Yanking the handlebars like you had a wolf by the ears? Keeping the throttle on right into a fence? The slow speed stuff I can kinda understand, if your only previous experience on 2 wheels was on a bicycle so _of course_ you can just wrassle it back into line. Not so much when ya got 300-500 lbs between your legs.

Mostly the bikes are faster than the brains - and they are riding the wrong bikes.... :S

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

When I first started I was told the bike will out perform the rider.

"Too much horse power and not enough horse sense" was a phrase a mechanic in NY used to say all the time.
