Yep you're right im already looking into another bike..Ive found another shaftey that is a supposed to be in excellent condition and only 8,000 original miles. I was ready to meet an purchase it when the seller's dad passed so thats been on hold untill he gets all the family stuff sorted. and he has a 1980 fuel injected model that the EFI has been removed and set up with carbs.. its low miles also.
Now since ive had a little bit of time Im second guessing . should I buy another shaft or go with something like you guys are talking about.

Diversity is good. also the maintenance on a newer bike is typically a lot less than the old KZs. never having to worry about cleaning carbs is nice if you go fuel injection. Have you thought about the ZRX?

I s'pose I'll have to side with the old school ole' farts on this one. Have 4 KZ's, the newest having a '79 big block motor, a tote gote (have no clue what year it was produced...somewhere in the '60's I'm guessing), and an old school '70's style Honda 750 chopper is on my bucket list by the time my big block '76 B1 is nearing completion. Modern day cruisers suit my eye quite well and wld probably have one in my stable if my funds weren't directed toward my KZ fleet. Modern day sport bikes just don't catch my eye as far as street bikes. The blue Kaw pictured above actually has some class because you can see the entire engine. What fun is having a street bike that goes from 0-200mph in 2 1/2 seconds if you can't show off the engine??? ...although I did have a really hard time deciding whether or not to buy a 2016 Kaw-Green ZX14R, or proceed with my '76 KZ1327 LTD restomod! Many factors go into decisions such as yours, and variables and pros and cons of each one never ends and no matter which one you end up opting for, there will always be these silent whispers going around in your head wondering about the other options you passed on. The best solution is to have 1 of each if it cld fit into your budget at some point. Having a diverse stable of bikes is quite doable even for low budget riders if you keep your eyes open and are able to seize opportunities when they come up. Good luck. .........................................Mike

I already bought a new bike - my 1977 KZ650-C1. My "old" bike was my 1963 BSA. Ed

Unless you enjoy wrenching almost as much as riding I'd stay clear of 30+ year old motorcycles. There is always something to do maintenance wise, and you will wind up in the poor house if you are paying someone to do the work.

Guys that ask the question about whether or not they should sell their old bike should just do it and move on. It's clear they are not tied to the older bikes anymore and that's okay. My only hope is that the bobber and cafe craze goes away before all the older bikes get all hacked up.

Much depends on whether of not you turn your own wrenches. Not many shops today will work on old bikes. LMAO many modern mech's see a bike with a kickstarter, points etc and they are mindboggled.. ..................Mike

YEAH, like these guys.

They didn't even know where the fuses were. If you ride you need to know how to do basic maintenance or have a deep pocket.
They tried to tow it with a couple belts, not even leather ones, didn't work.

I just picked up a Concours 1400. Besides wanting the power I was looking for traction control and ABS. Got it Thanksgiving so have not had a chanceto ride it much. Come on spring! I mostly just ride the Zee to burn rubber and horse around.Always fun to listen to that motor.

I still also have a 1980ST, also a 1979 KZ1000MKII, 4 KZ650s, and a 1974 H2 triple. During the 80s and 90s I was really fine with these. Now however, after owning new motorcycles, the last time I rode any of these? Rode one KZ650 last summer for a couple miles, all I could think was how glad I am I ride new bikes now. I still love the old KZs, but no more riding of them. Don't appeal to me at all in that sense. Mostly the KZ1000ST. To me that was the best KZ ever, built heavy as a truck and good looking. No parts left, Kawasaki abandoned any support for it in about 1982. No fun riding if you know all parts are NLA, or greedbay.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Ok guys i made an offer on the ZRX 1200 looks like by tuesday ill be riding it home.
Anyone he have any experience with these and is the price fair?
The owner is the 2nd and he is a Kawasaki mechanic who works at a dealership.
he said he is very particular and always changed the oil every 1000 miles and adjusted the valves ever 5000.
Says tires are like new and so are the brakes. He told me it only needs gas lol.
I spent quiet a bit of time talking to him and I get the feeling he is being straight.
