What is a 1980 Z1R 1000 worth? was created by Flyndrive
It has a title, but has been sitting in the garage for years. Looks pretty good in the pictures, everything is there. Looks like it has sidewinder exhaust. (I really like the way those look).

The more original it is the more its worth. What condition is it? Is it a rust queen, or just dusty and expected aging. I would think the sidewinder will lower the value, but who cares as long as you like it. Does it have all the signals, air box, body parts? Does the engine turn over? So hard to give a definitive answer. If it is in half decent shape with all parts there (maybe minus the original exhaust) but a non runner, I would shoot for $1500.

1980's are not worth as much as the 78's.
This one is raked! Has a Suzuki GS1100 swingarm! Has Mikuni bigger flatslide carbs!
Ths tells me it has a bigger bore and cams also! Because of those carbs, and the effort to rake the neck and run the sidewinder.
And by the way it is a MarkII engine, with the big pin crank, heavier tranny and stronger engine cases. That the drag racers love.
So after all of this!
This thing has been whipped up and on and more!
There! how's that for 1 picture :woohoo:
Get there with green folding money! Tell him it is ruined from original and beat up!
Try 500? maybe 750?
The 80's have a 19" front wheel, not an 18" like 78. So that ain't worth nothin.
Plus the seat is not original!
I have to stop now, my fingers are cramped.
Good Luck!

So are all those things really good like the rake and swingarm? Or is there so much that is not original it takes a lot of worth away?

So if I got it running would it be worth much more? Is it worth fixing up to sell?

If it is raked the value will decrease as far as being original. Frame mods are hard to reverse if looking for a true original. On the other hand it may be worth it for someone looking to run a drag bike. Look it over good it very well could have been a drag bike one time ago. Could be someone made a bad ass street motor and added some goodies, the reflector is still on the frame so it probably was not a track only bike. Either way tell him about the flaws and talk him down as was mentioned earlier. I would love to run across one for the right price. $500 to $750 not running. It will be interesting to see what he thinks it is worth.

It will be worth more running than not, so if you can get it cheap not running and get it running you could possibly make some money if it is just carbs and gas tank gummed up from sitting.. If the motor is blown then it will be a money pit as far as selling for a profit.

Also, back of front fender cut short, rear fender missing, wrong handlebars, who knows what else has been changed? Offer low price and don't plan to restore to original unless you have deep pockets. Ed

After seeing the bike, I can understand why people here have suggested that price. If you like the bike then $500 should be worth it. But keep in mind its been beat on and you may need to change internal parts. Given that, the thing I don't like the most is the fact that the front end has been racked. I don't know enough about these bikes to know how they originally handled on the twisties, but you can bet is not as good now given that is been raked. If you like strait line performance, then this is your bike. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
Here is a picture of OZ.Z1R Mk2's restored bike for inspiration from this site. Its a 1980 Z1R Mark II:

It will be a looker with a little money and elbow grease. Question is what the owner has in mind, he said no tire kickers so he must be wanting more than its worth. If it does not run you can beat him a little on price but you need to see it in person to make an offer, have money in pocket and truck/trailer with you.

if you want to buy this bike to fix up and use you should jump on it.
people will come out of the woodwork to tell you stories and talk to you about it.

i can de-rake a neck and make it look like it had never been cut.

so it can be reversed,if desired.

buying it to turn a profit may not be the best deal.

buying it to have an awesome bike that turns heads and runs hard would be more worth it.

80 model z1r frames are stiffer than 78 z1r frames.

according to www.zedder.com/Info/80%20KZ1000-D3%20Z1-R.htm

there were 17291 1978 z1r's

and there were 3308 1980 z1r's

so the 1980 z1r is the rarer one.

i have three 1978 z1r's and 1 1980 z1r.

imho the 80 is the more valuable.

theres my .02 fwiw.

let us know if you buy it.

How much would you think he should offer Leon? Given that you have four, your opinion is going to carry the most weight.
