I think there is a write up in the filebase for using a mercury switch wired to the horn for a cheap alarm...... My lock is broke so I use the plastic coated Kryptonite cable through the front rim and lock it over the handlebars at the key switch so I don't forget its there.....I had the disk lock and forgot one time and tried to ride away, :( It didn't dawn on me untill me and the Misses had to tuck and roll.  Nothing like going down in your own driveway from sheer stupidity. :) :)

AlarmB)
That will be good but a little pricey for now. But it is definitely an option in the future.

A Scorpion Alarm system works great.
It even has a ground sensor that will protect any luggage attached to the bike.
2-way transmitter alerts you if your alarm has gone off.
Not cheap, but so worth it. B)

i don't like locking mine up in case i have to make a quick getaway also if you do something to disable or inconvenince the thief they may get pissed off and take it out on the bike also i like some other people on here have mentioned tryed on more than one occasion to drive away with out removing the disc lock the last time cost me a paint job a fork leg and a new disc.

Well got me a cable lock for now. i can store it under the seat. I will hunt for lock cylinder for the steering now.
Seems like just steering lock will be the best unless put alarm system after seeing everyone's opinion. :)

BTW I don't have 50 cal but 44 mag B)

I park in my garage but just to make (thieves like big shiny things) sure, I installe pad lock thru holes in disc BEFORE I ever walk into house! If I'm going somewhere that bothers me I will bring pad lock along.

You can put a larger padlock thru the holes in the rear sprocket - for those of you without drilled discs..:)

That's the thought. I am changing the sprocket soon anyway.

I had one and cant remember why I wasnt using it.

The cable through the front wheel and up and over the gauges will keep you from forgetting its there because it blocks the key switch.

Be careful running a cable through the rear wheel. If you forget it can sheer the valve stem and you will have an instant flat and have to go back inside and watch Gilligans Island reruns while your buddies go riding without you........Ask me how I know

I had a cb360 that I locked the forks on and in the spring I couldn't find the key. My brother said no problem and got on it and slammed the forks over. Broke the casing that the pin goes against to lock it. There was just enough play to get good movement. He then hot wired my bike. Bike was trash anyway. But I ran it all that year.

As for protection I have a 4 foot and a 5 foot snake, a Great Dane, a wookie ghost and sometimes a Kryptonite lock to keep them safe. I got a Desert Eagle too.... along with 3 safes full of assorted noisemakers and sharp pointed things. Then there is the roving eye of Sauron that automatically summonses the authorities for body retrieval and disposal.
