Do you use any lock when you park? was created by tybolt99
Hi everyone,
I was wondering how you park your bike. It may depend on where and when too. I don't even have steering lock cylinder on KZ900. Just pull ignition key out and walk away for now. Of course I don't park overnight or at no activity area anyway. thinking to get cable or disc lock in case I need.
Do you use any external locking devise?

Fact is...if a thief wants your bike, they can get it. Bad thing about bikes is they can be thrown into the back of a truck by a few guys fairly easy. All you can do is keep other not so dedicated would-be thiefs at bay. I use a padlock put through one of the holes in the disc. Will move a little but will keep most thiefs away once they try to move it. Hardened lock best and if you use cable spend the money and get a good one. Any lock is better then none and park it where you can see it if possible.

boy that's a hard call...if you think you may need a lock...you probably do.....everywheres different......a disk lock or like racer54 said a padlock......
maybe start a thread or search a thread about putting a steering lock back in the frames neck.....
i on occasion lock my steering because of the vibes i get when parking around some folks.....more to make sure no one sits on bike and turns my bars and tips it over...ect.....or rolls it away......
some folks use a big link-two foot-chain and a big lock...gotta be a drag to carry around...good luck

a kill switch mounted in place of clutch safety switch helps slow them down even if they have a key they cant start it without knowing where switch is

I may need to get a steering lock cylinder to start with. Then maybe a pad lock??
Kill switch might be good thing since there are not many combination of keys for these old bikes.
I know thieves can get it anyway if they want to. I had a car stolen from my driveway long time ago. It was parked 20 feet away from my roommate's bed room window:blink:

I park in my garage but just to make (thieves like big shiny things) sure, I installe pad lock thru holes in disc BEFORE I ever walk into house! If I'm going somewhere that bothers me I will bring pad lock along.

I use a large Kryptonite lock that's designed for motorcycles. It fits through the front wheel on either side of the fork tubes.
I use to run it through the seat strap and right side grab rail when I took it with me.
You may be able to see it next to the seat in this pic:
I mainly use it at home now.
I do carry a disk/rotor lock with me now adays, but haven't used it in years.
It depends on where I park etc.

The only thing is I don't have drilled holes on the disc so I need to get something longer reach if I want to get a pad lock for disc.

I use a front disk brake lock but in your case.... Get one of those 2-3' long non cut-table cables and hefty pad lock where you can run it through the rear rim spokes around a frame tube and be done with it...
Down fall, big & bulky to carry around but hey... beats a stolen KZ right!

I think I may be able to find room under the seat since I don't have air box.

A Scorpion Alarm system works great.
It even has a ground sensor that will protect any luggage attached to the bike.
2-way transmitter alerts you if your alarm has gone off.
Not cheap,but so worth it.
