I posted something about Harley's being underpowered on a local forum in a thread where some guys were bashing Harley riders, and this guy singles me out and says
Place foot in mouth again...
You are building a Drag bike like your sig states?? Want to put your reputation on the line?
I will bring the "underpowered" Harley, you can then proceed to enbarris me with your 77 Kawasaki 810 Yoshimura Harley killer
Winner stays on the forum loser must leave .. Clarenville Dragway, June 12th??
Or we can race for cash..
I said, sure I'll race, for fun not money, but having no idea what the hell kind of a Harley he's got I have no idea if he's talking shit or not yet.
Are you building an 810 full blown dragbike or an 810 hoped up street legal bike? Either way its hard to beat more cc's. You should have no problem beating an 883 Skirtster but HD does make some big cc bikes.
I have a friend that has a Dyna Wide Glide with a 1340 cc motor. My 900 stock and his Harley stock I can beat him but he is right there with me. My other buddy has a Honda VTX1300 and I take him all day long.
Drive it like you stole it and have fun with the challenge.

But I have ridden V-twins also. It is really nice having that low end torque. In fact, it makes the motorcycle much easier to ride through various maneuvers without much skill. The V-twin riders simply open the throttle and go. The fours need to downshift to keep up.
So I can see the advantages and disadvantages to each. But the thing that really makes a big difference to me - is the smoothness of the four cylinder. My exhaust is quiet, and if there is any external noise at all, and I stop at a traffic light, I have to look at the tach to see if the engine is still running. And through the RPM range, there are only a couple of places where the harmonics just barely can be felt.
I just hate that frigging VIBRATION of the V-twin engines. It reduces with higher RPM, but does not go away. I saw this dude with his V-twin bike, ape-hanger handlebars, sleeveless t-shirt, dozens of patches, no helmet, you know the rest. He pulls up to a stop light beside me, and as his engine idles, the whole motorcycle shakes so much that the flab on the bottom of his arms was shaking also, in sync with the rest of the motorcycle. Thank goodness for my full face helmet, he couldn't see me laughing my ass off.
