I’m completely green here. Not that I can’t but this might as well be as they say written in Greek. First I have to learn how to read the mic. Then convert mm to inches. 

This stuff can get dicey and pricey, but good measuring tools are in and of themselves priceless.  Good luck Matt!

After a few you tube videos it seams pretty straight forward. I only spent $25 on the mic that reads to the .001 thousands. I wish I would have gotten one that reads to the .0001 ten thousands. The spec for the rod small end is .6694~.6698. Out of spec is six hundred seventy one thousands three tenths. .6713. So I’m looking for another

I played with the starrett telescoping gauge last night. It seams to decrease in measurement as I tighten the thumb turn. I doubt this is correct but for $10 it got something in my hand and now I know what I’m looking for. Trying one more time on used. Found a set of 5 mitutoyo for $34. If these are bad then just going to buy new. I also bought a starrett 0-1” vernier scale mic .0001. Right now I’m just about even with what shipping would have cost. But I got new tools to play with. RickH, look out I’m on my way down!

I love this guys channel. He goes into great detail on how to use these tools.

Hey Matt check out CL in south lyon 1 guy has a LOT of machinists tools for sale.I acquired about $5000 of Mititoyo tools from a garage sale all for a $800.Good luck hunting tools for your toys ! hahaha
