 Maybe that's why it rides so rough.

It is! I need to fix that.

The chain guard/muffler mount (ugh) is pretty close to the swingarm pivot point, so there shouldn't be much linear motion/up-and-down stress on the muffler.

Still not a great idea, though.

A big thank you to baldy110.

I remember noticing that the muffler was holding up the front of the chain guard and thought that wasn't right. Didn't realize it was also bolted to the swingarm. Should have caught that. Seems like the guy I bought it from said the pipes were fairly new to the motorcycle. The exhaust still seems solid. I'm curious to see how much better it rides now.
I'll get a longer brace and attach it to the frame.

For now it's just hanging.

You can make a clamp for the frame out a piece of strap. It needs to be supported.

Quick and dirty strap. I'll round the ends and paint it when I get more stuff out of storage. I'm currently working out of state from my regular habitat. Most of my stuff is still in storage.

Also pulled the front sprocket cover off in preparation to replace what I think is the original chain.

What did you attach the upper strap mount to?

There is a threaded bung welded to the frame there. Don't know what it was for originally. There is one on both sides. Look like they could be foot peg mounts that were added at some point.

Smart man! Switching to a 530 chain would be wise.
