89 KZ1000P bobber?

Figured I would just post here and put all the stuff I do to this bike in this thread. I'm really not going to change much I like the way I bought it. But as you know we rarely can leave our old bikes the way they are. There's always something we want to change. I did add a small case to the top of the rear fender and I plan to change the shocks for something that rides better. Need to add a drink holder and maybe a set of crash bars if I find them. Not sure what you would call this style but I figured bobber was pretty close. I like the floorboards but pretty much everything else of the police model has been stripped off. And now for some pictures. Auto correct changed bobber to Barbara so I guess she has a name now.

Added a center stand and used Pattons penny trick to get the spring on.

It is pretty simple. Before disassembly, gather six or eight coins (depends n thickness of coins, length of spring, et c). With the stand fully deployed, insert a coin in every second or third coil. When you fold up the stand, the coins will prevent the spring from closing, and if there are enough coins, the spring will almost fall off.. Leave the coins in the spring until you are ready to install, then Bob's your uncle, it will slip on without a problem. Deploy the stand and remove the coins. Ride like a madman!

That's it. Though I had to bend the spring and push pennies in from each side. My spring wasn't on to begin with.
Need to find a rubber bumper for the up stop. There is a .550 diameter hole for one on the exhaust. Wonder where I'll find that?

Rode the klr650 to work today. Left Barbara on the stand.

Do you know what model the mufflers came from? Maybe the bumper is still available for them.

Not for sure. I think they are aftermarket pipes. Need to get some pics and try to read the name and number.

Those look like they are from an LTD. If so, that tab toward the front is a muffler mount. The stand bumper would be farther back, near the rear muffler mount. If those are from an LTD 1000, Partzilla lists the bumper as still available.

The dampener mount is underneath and behind the muffler like the diagram shows. Thanks.

Looks like the muffler is bolted to the swingarm.
